I would say it isn't worth doing for the chance that it isn't good...it really doesn't do much for the driving experience.

I think it's ok to shift back and forth between D3 and D4. Tho it's written in the manual that you can even shift between gear 1-4. In fact my friend who works as a technician at a BMW dealer says that it's perfectly fine to shift, just dont downshift that much when you are at high speed (ex. >70mph)

Starting the car from 0mph at D3 is already much more powerful than at D4. I wouldnt use 2 or 1.

Ive done it from the get go on my 92 and 96 Accords. the 92 Accord had 88k when it was totalled in an accident; the 96 Accord now has about 100k on the clock, and its running just fine; tranny and all. I just change the tranny fluid once every year or two.

let's see... i have been doing this for last 80k miles on my 94 accord, and it runs better than first time when i get it used.

it used to shut off automatically at the traffic light, the RPM just drops crazy and shuts down the ignition, but then ever since i started to manual shift with AT, my car runs better than ever! it doesn't die on the traffic light anymore.

it's your call since it's your car!

i personally think its ok to manually shift through the gears as long as you have common sense and don't put it into d3 when you're going 90 mph. but although it will be ok, i hardly do it cus its not worth the extra effort and theres no need to act like you have a 5-spd. if you want a 5-spd that bad, do a tranny swap...

btw the only thing i do now is just switch from d3 to d4.

keep it in d3 for city driving and d4 for speeds over 45 mph.

as long as you're smart about it and know how the engine and tranny work you will be fine.

Shifting does get better gas mileage.. I always shift from d4 to neutral when going downhill or closing to a stoplight or stop sign.. From there, I would shift back to d4. When you shift from neutral to d4, give it a second before you hit the gas... I don't know if doing this is bad, but it does save $$$...

hehe.... 3rd gear is good for over 100mph so when i used to race on the freeway, i could beat 5sp accords. the ecu wont let u downshift if its unsafe, but u can hit the rev limiter all day long if u leave it in low gear. when racing, i usually went about 250rpms into the red, then shifted. it kept the motor in vtec after the shift

btw if the gear selector is in d4, d3, d1, the car starts in 1st gear, so acceleration is the same (in 1st gear.) d2 starts in 2nd gear, great for snow driving.

Default keep your auto trannys in drive

I drove my dad's 94 like that when I was 17 and I didn't do it right either, and every one I know including my mechanic told me not to so I stopped

It was a lease I don't know where it is now but i bet it has problems

even if it says you can drive it like that, look at it this way it's automatic not stick the car doesn't like to be driven like that so keep it in drive and take it easy on those automatics. plus it doesn't feel right

you might look cool now and think it sounds good but you're not gonna look cool pulled over on the side of the road when your tranny goes

i'm not trying to be cocky just give good advice
