02RSXTYPES, thanks for trying to get the Canadian dealer invoice price. I've been searching for a site with that info as well, but no luck either. However, I went back to the Kelley's Blue Book and did a comparison between the invoice and retail values (for all 2002 Accord Coupes) and the markup is very consistent at 10.8%.

2000accordV6, I'm almost sold on the 2002 model. I would love to wait for the 2003, but if I can get the 2002 SE Accord Coupe (automatic - I don't drive manual) at 'invoice price' (which is about $24,000 CAD) I'll be very happy. And you're right, looks are important ... I just hope I can get a decent color. I'm shooting for blue at the moment ...

Thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions and recommendations. I am hoping to buy the car within a week (good luck to me, lol) so I'll let you know how it went

P.S. the news and rumors forum is very cool

Hey good luck in it bro, you'll love whatever you get. Personally my favorite coupe color is San Marino Red. Make sure you get a Honda spoiler on her, it makes the car since the original design (NSX) called for a spoiler to be fitted

Thanks for the compliment on news and rumors, we do try. Feel free to post your thoughts about anything, we love new guys

Default Extended Warranty?

Hey all,

Mission accomplished

I went to the dealership last Saturday, test drove a couple of vehicles, chose *the one* (which turned out to be a 2002 Accord SE Sedan in silver metallic), picked it up on Monday and have been enjoying it for three days already. It's a wonderful car - after getting into it for the first time, I was about to turn the engine on when I found out the car was already running. The engine is truly whisper-quiet. Sweet

Now I have one last decision to make and I hope you can help ... I did the whole Platinum Protection Package (i.e. paint sealant, undercoating, rust proofing and fabric guard) but they are also encouraging me to buy extended warranty (both powertrain & bumper to bumper for up to 7 years) I am considering the 6 year (100,000km) package as I don't drive much, but it is expensive. I am conflicted between the peace of mind I'd have if I got the package and the fact that Honda is a reliable car and shouldn't need this insurance. What do you all think? To buy or not to buy?

Thanks in advance ...

I had the same decision to make on my 99 ACV6, and I didn't buy it. It turned out that decision saved me 1200 bucks...it's simply not worth it. Hondas are that reliable. My only non-warranty cost was a failed O2 sensor...but the dealership got Honda to replace it for free (about 250 bucks in all), so all I paid was a 20 dollar tip to the service manager.

No offense, but if you were gonna buy a sedan, I woulda waited on the 2003. Depending on your budget, of course, but the priorities you listed would make the 2003 sedan far a.d away better. Did they have any there when you went?

I saw a 2003 sedan on Sunday. Man that was ugly. I just don't know what they were thinking. I drove the 1.8 Jetta too and that is more fun. That will probably be my next car.

02RSXTYPES, I respect your opinion and greatly appreciate your advice

The salesman who sold me the car (and incidentally owns a 2001 V6 Accord Coupe) said the same thing. It was the dealership who was feeding my paranoia about getting the extra coverage. I've decided to take your advice

When I asked the dealer when they'd be getting the new models in, they replied it wouldn't be for a few weeks yet. I'm wondering if it's because we live in Canada??? So unfair ... I was dying to see the newly styled versions up close.

As to choosing the 2002 over the 2003, there were other factors involved. I was anxious to get a car now, at a decent price; the extras on the 2003 were cool, but I didn't need half of them; and after comparing the two models in pictures, side by side, I found liked the sleeker lines of the 2002 more. I just hope when I see the 2003 I won't be too disappointed in my choice! lol

::sighs:: too late now

trafficjam, I (not so) secretly hope you're right, lol. Btw, I did test drive the Jetta 1.8T before making my decision to stick with Honda. I found it was a fun and great looking car, but there were cabin space and visibility issues. The latter was the determining factor.

HondaBuyer, your new car sounds sweet.
My 93 is nice (and affordable) but what I wouldn't do to seriously upgrade...

BTW, I forgot to tell you, I had my Accord for almost 90,000 miles (like 7 trillion kilometers) before she was T-Boned by a Chevy Cavalier and oddly totaled (okay, I had a good friend in the insurance company and I wanted to buy a new car...but it still got really messed up), and the only problem was the 02 sensor. The exhaust and everything held up beautifully. Oh yeah, I had an EGR problem..Exhaust Recirculator Valve...that came with like 75k miles, only cost like 120 bucks. A far cry from the 1200 USD for the warranty.

You will love your new car. Enjoy her
