That's not the problem. The problem is that 2nd gear doesn't get enough lubrication in affected vehicles. Adding an additional cooler will help somewhat, but if your tranny is bad from the start it won't do much.

That will also count as transmission modification. Most dealers will then void the warranty on the tranny.

I'm kinda pissed because I had a '98 and my transmission started slipping around 90-95K miles. I bought it used, no certified warranty (i.e. i'm the 2nd owner)

Now I'm well over 130K and even if I showed HOA all these forum postings I made when my car was at 90K they still wouldn't give a shit.

As it turns out, I'm selling my Accord on August 4th to my mother for $5,000 ($1,500 less than blue book) mainly because the transmission. I believe I'm LUCKY to even get $5,000 (It's all stock now, everything -- from all boltons (except the helix) to the stock radio to the wheels to the heads and tails) and getting an RSX-S

So I'm kinda pissed because I could've used the extra $1,000 I could've gotten from a private party if the transmission DIDN'T slip.

I may be jumping into another bed of worms by getting an RSX-S with it's documented transmission problem throughout the LIFESPAN of the car (02-05), but ::shrug::

I have also heard that Honda had fixed the AT Tranny by 02, so 02's weren't affected... but then why does the 02 Odyssey have the extended warranty, don't the Accord and Odyssey have the same tranny?

What we do at the dealers is put in a oil jet in to the trans filler hole, Before we install the oil jet we take pictures of the second gear, if it shows any blue or gold it needs a new trans, if it still silver then we just jut the oil jet in.

How much does that service cost if it isn't a warranty claim?

That service is part of the trans recall that applied to 7th gen Accords, Odysseys and Pilots. There is no charge for the recall work with the oil jet installation.

There was never a recall on 6th gen Accord transmissions, but the problem with them is the same as it was on the 7th gens that required the recall.

Looks like this 3.0 V6 Auto Tranny problem is more widespread than I thought...my wife's 1999 Accord Coupe has only 57K miles and the tranny is starting to go...there's some noticeable slip when downshifting to 2nd gear.

My dealer has told me the transmission needs to be replaced...cost for a remanufactured unit: $2950.00 + $525.00 labor...the sad things is that we plan to sell the car ASAP...we just picked up a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Ltd. Wagon. I don't exactly want to spend $3500.00 on a car I don't want.

I think I'm going to call Honda Corporate and see if they'll do anything for me. The transmission has absolutely NOT been abused...my wife drives like my grandmother. There is no explanation except that there is either a design/engineering flaw or a manufacturer's defect. If Honda fails to help me out in any way then this will probably be my last...which is sad since I've had 3 Acuras in the past and for the most part liked them a lot..
