If the car is already certified, here is what I found on Honda's Website. If your car is not certified ask the previous owner about warranty information

I have purchased 2 Accords, 1 Civic for my mother and a Pilot for my brother in law within the past 3 years, they all have this warranty.

I think everybody is confusing Power-train warranty with extended warranty.Power-train only covers your Transmission and Engine upto 100K, nothing else. and Extended warranty if you buy it, covers bumper-to-bumber upto what ever time they give you

For how long is the Honda Certified Used Car warranty in effect?
The warranty is a 1-year / 12,000-mile limited warranty and a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. At time of purchase, if your car is within American Honda's new-car warranty (3 years/36,000 miles), the 12/12 limited warranty will begin at the expiration of the new car warranty, giving you a 4-year/48,000-mile limited warranty. At time of purchase, if your new-car warranty has expired, the 12/12 limited warranty begins on the date of purchase and expires at the earlier of 1 year or 12,000 miles. The powertrain warranty is good for 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original date of purchase of the new vehicle.

Is the Honda Certified Used Car warranty transferable to a new owner?
Yes. The Certified warranty is transferable to a new owner in a sale from a private party to another private party. Simply complete the Change of Ownership Card at the back of the Customer Warranty Manual and mail it in to American Honda.

Yes; as I stated above, this is correct IF your car is a CERTIFIED used Honda. The person who started this thread said nothing about his car being Certified. There is a long-shot chance that the private party who sold it to him may have bought it certified themselves, but that is highly doubtful. It might be worth a shot to have your dealer run it through the Honda database and see if anything comes up - but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

In most cases, your warranty is finished after 36/36.

I talked to my friend who is a Finance Manager at a Honda Dealaership and he said that its not just for Certified cars it for all Honda cars.

Honda offers 100k/7 years powertrain warranty on all thier Cars. If you sell the car, the warranty continues to the next owner until 100K or 7 years.

The powertrain warranty is good for 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original date of purchase of the new vehicle. form Honda's Website.

It means if your car it within the time or miles, you are still OK but if it is passed then you are not.
so if a vehicle was purchased in 97, it will not have a warranty anymore but if it was purchased in 01 and its under 100K, You still have a warranty.

Here you will get alot of different opinions but the best way to make sure is either call American Honda or a Honda Dealership, which is what I did.

The only thing I could find on Honda's Website is that a certified car has a 7yr/100k warranty, not just any car... I think I am more confused than when I started this thread... Also is it possible to certify my accord even though I bought it from a private party?

Um no. Certain Accord V6s have a 100k extended transmission warranty. All Hondas have a 3yr/36k mile powertrain warranty. Certified Used Hondas, bought from a Honda dealership, have a 100k bumper to bumper warranty.

Do a search for 'extended warranty transmission' or something in this forum, I think it's 2000-2002.
