My dealer has told me the transmission needs to be replaced...cost for a remanufactured unit: $2950.00 + $525.00 labor...the sad things is that we plan to sell the car ASAP...we just picked up a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Ltd. Wagon. I don't exactly want to spend $3500.00 on a car I don't want.

I think I'm going to call Honda Corporate and see if they'll do anything for me. The transmission has absolutely NOT been abused...my wife drives like my grandmother. There is no explanation except that there is either a design/engineering flaw or a manufacturer's defect. If Honda fails to help me out in any way then this will probably be my last...which is sad since I've had 3 Acuras in the past and for the most part liked them a lot..
Since you have such low miles, there's no reason why they shouldn't replace it for free. I've heard tens of stories of people with more miles than you getting new trannies from Honda for free on 98s and 99s. I don't understand why 98-99 didn't get the extended tranny warranty but 00-02 did.

I hope Honda ends up replacing it for free...I talked to the dealer this afternoon and they're not willing to do anything. They only gave me Honda's Customer Relations number....so I'll be calling them and hope they help me out a little...At this point, I'd be happy if they worked out a deal where I would only be responsible for the labor.

I guess I'm sort of glad I didn't buy a 2005 Accord. It seems as if Honda still hasn't worked out there A/T problems. I seriously looked at an EX V6 Sedan but my wife wanted a midsize wagon so we ended up with a Subie.

I also don't understand why Honda did not extend the warranty for 98s and 99s...they're the same generation and use the same transmission...does not make sense.

CORRECTION - extended warranty is for 2000 and 2001 only, and does not include 2002 Accords...
