Honestly, when comparing these two cars, I think the bigger factor is not the brand (since they are both reliable) but how the car is maintained. Keeping up on regular maintainence will be a larger determining factor. So buy the one you like better and maintain it and you'll be good to go. If you like the Camry better, then buy it. But if you like the Accord better, don't buy the Camry because you think it's going to last longer.

There was a recent article in the news about a year or two ago about a courier who drove a Honda Accord one million miles, he credited not only the car, but the fact that he kept up on routine maintainence.

Unfortunately the original news link is now dead, but here's the thread: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...threadid=34926

the problem is people think honda's last forever and dont take care of them, that and the fact that the automatics eventually are sold to people who put non genuine ATF in them and kill the transmissions.

hondas last as long as toyotas as long as you take care of them

obviously, I'm slightly biased, but I have had virtually no problems with my car, I own a 1993 Honda Accord 10th Annivers. Edition (basically an LX with larger wheels and ABS, from that generation). The car has always be driven in Michigan (rough winters, bad roads, and tons of salt to keep the roads ice free.) The car now has 170,000 miles on it, and I have had no problems. Recently I had to change some springs on the front suspension and struts, but those were all original OEM, so all things considered, not bad after 12 years of use. So, after 12 years of great quality, I had to spend $400 to replace those parts in the front suspension. Everything has held up great, no engine, tranny, or interior problems at all. I ahve been very happy with this car, it's been great. Being that I am a college student, I see tons and tons of 4th Generation Accords on campus (1990-1993). I went to get an oil change the other day and the guy in front of me was driving a 1989 Accord with 290,000 miles on it...yeah, i think that speaks longevity and quality. I have no intentions of buying a new car right now, and I know this one will keep on going. I plan to use it for at least 2-3 yrs until I graduate, and after 14-15 years of quality life, I will retire it when I buy a new honda.

I have an 88 Accord LX-I with 265,000 miles on it and it runs like a dream but fortunately normal wear and tear things start to happen with a 17 year old car. The A/C stopped working (needs a new compressor), the drivers power window stopped working (needs a new power window control box) and I have to replace the upper control arms on the car. Other than those issues the car has been extremely reliable I had it since 1990 with only 34,000 miles at the time. That car has been so good to me that Ive owned nothing else but Hondas ever since a 97 Integra GS-R and a 01 Accord EX to replace my 88 one day (I have all three still) but only when it dies but after fixing those problems mentioned above who knows I could get another 265,000 out of it. Accords and any other Hondas for that matter will run forever if properly maintained.

But they did tell me something that they didnt have too. They had some problems with the 98 v6 auto tranny and that if i had been the orignal owner than they would probably replace it for free. But since i was the third owner and the car had 150000 miles than they would only replace the transmission for free i just had to pay the labor on it. That speaks alot to me about honda customer service. All i own is hondas and I wont ever buy anything but a honda.
You are lucky. I have to pay $1200 for the transmission (98 I4 broken at 76K) and the customer service is horrible. My new one is having noise and they refuse to do anything.

160,000 on my 96. No problems ever and still runs like new. Bought with 40k miles 3 years ago and hasn't aged except for clear coat peeling off paint. Driven MANY times from Michigan to Florida... runs 22 hours straight non-stop with no problem. I'll put this car up against any Toyota any day. Everyone talks about Honda's automatics, but mine is fine after all these years/miles. I change my fluid with Honda ATF every 15k miles and keep rolling. The only problem Honda has had with their automatics have been with the carrier bearings on the 6th gen and an oil jet recall on the 7th gens.

Keep it maintained, and it should never break. As Jschmid suggested, get the 4-cylinder.

Damn it, doesn't anyone check to see how long these threads last and take them off after a while??? Anyway, I'm new. As a consultant with clients in the automotive industry, the Hondas tend to have higher resale values and hold their value longer than any other car make sold in the US for the mass market. I got some stories but nobody is probably reading this but newbes anyway....

Yeah, I know how old it was. Older posts than this have been brought up many times.. this one isn't THAT old. It is possible that she has not yet made a final decision (some people take months to shop for a car) and I was just giving my $0.02. If it's too old for a reply, lock the thread.

halo~ this is a honda site, if u ask me , of coz i will say Accord is better than camry.
The fact is both cars are reliable, if you keep them good, these car can go over 200k. Honda OEM parts maybe a little bit pricy than Toyota parts, however, Accord have more aftermarket part then Camry. So if you have accident or if u want to mods a little on your car, accord is always better than camry. Besides, don't you think Camry looks a little too old on the exterior?
