i'd have to see the dent to be sure...but yeah he's tryin to jack u pretty good there lol the thing books out at around 20,800...i could see maybe knockin 300-500 off for the ding at the most...but that's still 20,300 worst case. they use nada, and that's trade in on it anyway...but you're never gonna get str8 trade in on a vehicle. i'd say a reasonable offer would be 19,500 to start and if you could get 20,000 or a little more for it that would be doin pretty good...but yeah, 16,200 is crap lol he probably actually appraised it higher, but only showed you 16,200 to hold gross on your trade. if the used car manager actually put 19,500 in it, and the sales person only gives you 16,200, he just picked up 2300 bucks in front end gross that he gets paid on. if they were gonna give u a big discount on the car, they have to make their money back somehow, so they'd do it on the trade. if they weren't gonna give u a good discount, then they were really tryin to make money on you lol i'd have the thing appraised at a few dealerships and see what they say. but just dont go in there expecting to get full retail, which is around 23,000 after the hit for the damage, because that's not gonna happen. the most you should get for that car is the 19,000-20,000 range, and 20,000 would actually be pretty generous. good luck with the car shopping...oh, and if you need any prices on new hondas let me know because i still have my list with all true honda invoices for every model they make. i worked at a honda dealership up until earlier this month (took a job as a process operator at citgo petroleum $$$$$) so if u've got anymore car buying questions i'll be happy to help. im gonna have alot of fun when i buy my 05 S2000 in a couple months haha

print out a copy and bring it with you when you shop, that should make the salesman's day...always demand to see their invoice when u buy a car too. the invoice on all hondas will be the same from dealership to dealership, but each dealership has it's own little fees here and there so the final cost on the vehicle may differ slightly but it shouldn't be much. have fun with all that

Well of course they're going to try to screw you on trade in, used cars (along with service) are how dealerships make the bulk of their money. Trading in is never a good idea if you're looking to get max return...it's much better just to spend the extra time and sell privately.

Edmunds.com has great pricing info...invoices, MSRPs and their 'TMV'.

PITR: I used to sell cars (I try to forget about when I did that but sometimes it's helpful), and bringing in documents like that isn't a good negotiating tool They have to make their money some how, and either they're going to screw him on his trade in or the car he's going to buy. Or both if he doesn't negotiate.

maybe you sold cars but obviously you weren't any good at it... why go to edmunds.com when i just gave him the invoices? just add 515 for the destination charge, and that's invoice. and yes, bring that with you if you want. demand to see the invoices. dont be intimidated. dont be afraid to leave if you cant get what you want. the salesman will sweat alot more than you will. shop around. be firm and you wont get screwed. simple shit. i sold cars for a year and a half, and am glad i did. obviously you sucked at it if you're trying to forget. i sold 12 cars and made 7000 my first month on the job, something i'm proud to remember. if you want a good deal, knowledge is power. sure the salesman may hate you when it's done, but it's either you or him and you're not going there to make friends. when i buy my S2000 later this year, im getting it for invoice or less (depending on whether they have dealer cash at the time or not). another thing, when you get to the business office and they show you your intrest rate, ask to see the call back from the bank. not a printed one, ask them to pull it up on dealerworld, or credit connect, or whatever program they use so you can see your real intrest rate, not the one they've marked up to show you. also, extended warranties, gap insurance, everything on the back end has markup just like the front end. if you fight, u can get that discounted just like the car. like i said, those are the invoices. why AV6 wants u to go to edmunds, i dunno. you've got all the info you need right there. have fun, good luck. need any advice, lemme know. i was one of the best salesmen, so i know how to beat the best salesmen. remember, people can only to do you what you let them do. if you get screwed when buying a car, it's your own fault for not fighting back

Yes knowledge is power but the trick is to contain that knowledge...any idiot customer can come in waving around sheets of paper. The good ones use it to their advantage and don't tip their hand. It's just like playing poker...if you have a great hand, you don't show it to everyone and try to make them quit. It's an art. I bought my car for $250 under invoice and didn't get financing from HMC. No accessories, no bullshit, just the car. It wasn't because I went in there waving papers and demanding shit. That's not how you do it.

I don't know why you insist on getting into a pissing contest with me in every thread and using personal attacks dude...what is your problem? I thought I was good but it was a shitty job and had no satisfaction. Now I have a job in the field that I want to be in, make awesome money, and will be at my dream job (Honda or GM) within 10 years.
