i dont know why you keep bugging me....when you hold all the cards it doesn't matter if they know or not. and who's talking about waving? and there's not much to know about buying a car. if you know the invoice price, you know what kinda deal you're on. you go in, tell them how much u want the car for, either they'll do it, or you go somewhere that will. it's not a dance, it's not an art. it's just that simple. the hardest part for me is picking the car i want. you seem like a weak willed person. im not. i guess you can tell im a bit aggressive. that comes from being in sales actually. you wanna know how you get what you want when buying a car? you take it. you dont have to trick people into giving you a good deal. im not saying anything about waving like a crazy person or beating on desks while you scream demands. im not talking about being an asshole, all you do is find the car you want, drive it, have fun, take your time, pick out the one you want...but once u go into the closing room, funtime is over. it's time to put your game face on. and once he shows you what he wants you to pay for the car, you tell him what you ARE going to pay for it. and when he says he cant do it, then you pull out the info and tell him that he can and either he will or you'll find somebody that else that will. it's not that hard to do. dont let the salesman talk, take control of the situation, and get what you want. that's the key to the whole process. control. the salesman is trying to stay in control so he can hold gross. i know because i was always in control with my customers because i wasn't gonna let anybody walk into my office and tell me how things were gonna work. well it's the same way now that im a customer. i'm walking in with the attitude that nobody's going to tell me how much of my money i'm going to spend, or how im going to spend it. it's just that simple. you dont need tactics and tricks and blah blah, just know what u want before you go and stand firm until you get it. simple. and if you'd stop saying stupid stuff i wouldn't have to get into any kind of match with you. stop giving these people all this damn bad advice. and i really dont give a shit about your dream job. in 10 years hopefully i wont be working at all. by then i plan to be well into real estate (where the big licks are), and have my own business started so that the only person im making rich is myself. and like i said, anybody need any help buying a car, let me know.

Default They are doing what is in their best interest

Cars.com has some suggestions about trade-ins. It was good that you could walk away.

I just bought a used 2002 EX v6 (43000) loaded in perfect condition for $16,000 out the door after taxes from a honda dealership and the private party value in was $16,500 before taxes. They had a bunch of used Hondas in stock but are not selling them off. That value may be the auction price that was given for your vehicle.

Email and call dealerships around your area and see what they will offer for your car, then take their offer to your dealership and make them match their offer.

I ran your type of car on kbb to get the kelley blue book value of it, and with a scratch and ding to the body the car is listed to only be worth $15,700 trade-in to the dealerships. With a flawless paint and body to the car still is only worth $16,725. Go to www.kbb.com to see for yourself. This is where all dealerships usually base their prices on.

You lose a lot of value the first couple of years the best thing for you to do is to hold on to your car for a couple of years then trade it in or try to sell it privately but if you dont wait a couple of years either way you would lose money.

PROJECT ITR AND ACCORD V6 - no need to argue ( I think).

However, I do agree (on this particular point) with Project ITR. When I bought my Accord (a month ago) I just found out what the dealer paid for it and gave him $500 over invoice. Car was listed 21500 (at the dealership), invoice was 19,000, I paid 19,500. Probably could got better deal but did not want to lose time. I went to 3 dealers. First two wanted to waster my time. Third took my offer in 5 minutes - we made a deal.

Dealer/sales-man is NOT doing you a favor by selling you the car. You are doing him a faveor (and you put food on his table) by choosing to buy a VERY expensive product (i.e. car) from him. I once had 3 salespersons and their managers trying to convince me that I cannot get a better deal then 20,500 (on 21,500 list price) and I just laughed to their face and told them (and I quote): "Guys, you are wasting your breath and my time." I walked out and got my deal somewhere else.

Just my 2 cents.

exactly. that's all you have to do. he's got the invoices, and there's ALWAYS dealercash on civics...right now i think there is around 1000 on all models but Si and hybrid, so you should be able to get that civic for invoice or up to 1000 less. if you pay any more than invoice you've got nobody to blame but yourself. you cant get what you dont ask for. you tell them what you want either they do it, or you leave. simple. somebody will give you the deal you want, and you dont have to buy the 1st trip to the dealership. if you go, and then leave unhappy most of the time they'll catch u before u can leave and give you what you want. whoever caves first loses. all you gotta do is hold out longer than the salesperson, and with all the weak ass salespeople they have out there that shouldn't be long. now where i worked, we didn't have many weak asses, thank goodness. but they're not hard to find. good luck, and lemme know how it goes
