Gear Shift Knob Assembly
Hey all out there,
I recently purchased a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe EX. It came with an non-stock gear shift knob, which was broken. I bought a knob from an online retailer, it's a Honda Knob for my model. I received the knob, but I cannot figure out how to install it and connect it with the leather.
Thanks,
Macks

Thats perfect thanks so much.
Now I have a new issue, turns out the guy who put the after market knob on he removed the "clip" (the plastic thing that connected to the boot which the knob clicks into) How can I get one of those, or do you think I should just not worry about it.

More issues! I took of the stock knob to find a strange shaft. It is just a rod, no threads, so I have no way to install my new knob. Can I buy a new transmission shaft thing?
(Sorry I don't know very much about cars)

Damn dude did he tell you about all this? That's pretty messed up. You can order a new shift boot for about $25 but the metal rod is another story...I think what this jerk did is cut down the shaft so that the shift knob would be lower.
Tell me how much different your metal shifting rod looks from this guy's: http://www.filtsai.com/accord/cut_shifter/index.php

And yeah, that is pretty damn lame.
After further reading, I think it might make more sense for me to just get a metric tap and dies, and put the threads on it. I don't suppose you know if I buy a boot it comes with that plastic clip that connects to the knob.
Is there any "real" advantage to having a shorter shift knob why is it popular to cut them down? I would think a longer shaft would give the driver more leverage to shift with less muscle.
