Default Rim/Tyre advice

Hi guys, new to the forum and looking for some advice. I am looking at buying some Motegi MR3 rims in gunmetal grey.

The rims!

I have a 96' Accord Coupe EX, black. I am looking at getting 17", and my car is at stock height. What size tyre should I get, that would look good now, at stock height, but also acceptable should I choose to lower it (less than 2 inches).

Also, does anyone own these rims? Are they of good quality and do they ride well? I am hoping that they will look sweet on my car.

Any advice and criticism is encouraged.

a 205/45-17 tire is like a Civic tire... they are way too small, and if you use that tire your wheel gap will look huge. Get a 215/45-17 tire, they look much better.

On a black car I would never put gunmetal rims (I'd personally never buy gunmetal like rims) That'd be too much black. I think something with a silver finish would be better.

Wheelmax is alright... just the people that work there are assholes and their customer service SUCKS!! (personal experience)

I highly recomend www.tires.com... their people are more friendly, they have free shipping, free lugs, free mounting/balancing... where wheel max charges up the ass for all that crap.

The Motegi's are of good quality. I'm neutral about those rims. I wouldn't pay too much for them though.

Gunmetal in my opinion are good on black cars. I was gonna get my rims in gunmetal but I figured that I'd rather have a higher resale value and go back to stock rims before I sell the car and keep my rims for the next car.

A less than 2" drop would be nice. As for tire sizes, you can look above because they're right.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am not planing on paying through the nose for these rims, I found a local speed shop that will sell me them for $115 a piece. So I feel like that's not too bad of a deal. Also, my insurance is paying for it, since all of my stock tims got trashed in a theft. Yes we got him, that &^%($%.

Anyways, so for recap. 205/45/17 size whould be the best look right now at stock height, but also allow me to lower my car without rub? I also don't want to change the diameter of the whole wheel compaired to stock, as I hear it can change your speedometer.

Thanks for the input.

look at the max load too.
you can go to tirerack or discount tire site to look for the info.

I'd go with 215 but the correct offset for the wheels so they wont rub.

Well no matter what the low pro tires will make the gap look huuuuuge. The bigger rim and smaller tire creates an optical illusion making the gap look bigger than before. Sheesh am I the only one who reads Super Street? Seriously if yer gonna be at stock height you might wanna reconsider rims and lower first rather than suffer all the 4x4 comments or get a huge set of tires like 215-50-17and go smaller later.

But slammed on stockies still looks better than rims at stock height. You're gonna be disappointed with the look. Trust me man.

Someone...stole...your stock rims...

and got caught? what an idiot. he deserves to be caught.

Anyway, that's a pretty darn good price. I'd say get the rims on and then lower. It definetly won't rub and you should lower like 1.5" or 2" and it'll look fine. I still have like a 2 finger wheel gap with the 18's and lowered 1.5".

My friend with a prelude got some eibachs and lowered it and then put 18's, but it started to rub and between the rims and springs, he chose to ditch the springs and get new ones. So you're going on the right track because you can always take the spring back, but if the rims don't look right, they rub due to the car being low, etc., then you can't do much about them.

LOL

Let me explain better about the theft. First off, I live in Orlando Florida, where Honda's are hot items for car club theifs (no offense to the legit ones). They saw my car sitting in front of my house, decided to steal it, and did so. However, I have an exhaust on my car, and was awake at the time, so I heard it start up and leave. I was on the phone in seconds with the police.

The theif was apparently looking for his buddy, so he kept driving around in the area, unknowing that I was on phone with the police telling them his every move (I could see or hear the car for the majority of the time that the theif was driving, pretty dumb eh?). So anyways, the cops got on his tail, and he got spooked. He pulled into a shopping center with a cop behind him, and was doing about 70 through the parking lot.

You know those concrete blocks that keep you from pulling too far forward in your parking space? Well, he hit a set of those doing about 70, and blew all 4 of my tyres. He then lost control of the car, and hit an island in the parking lot so hard that he broke the concrete crub surrounding it. Mind you, I had no tyres, so the impact was solely on the front rims. The guy got out and ran, but the cops were right with him, and he didn't make it far.

So, it ended up being 3 cracked/bent/undrivable rims, a ripped out ignition, and some damage to the front bumper. Since the stock Honda rims are about $170, and I have to replace the tyres anyways, aftermarket rims are the natural selection :P.

Great story huh? I think I got really lucky, not only that we were able to recover the car, and the theif, but that so little damage was caused to it.

I love my Honda.
