well no dealer anywhere is just gonna pay your car off...the way this works is...your tundra isn't worth as much as you owe on it, that's called NEGATIVE EQUITY lol. U're upside down in that thing obviously...but if u only owe 4800 on it and it didn't even appraise for that much, it must be old, or a piece of shit...and those V6 6speeds aren't a limited edition, that's bullshit. the dude was just tryin to **** u. but if u're upside down in your trade it's gonna possibly take some cash down from u, unless you have really good credit, just to get the banks to approve it. Banks aren't gonna want to finance more than about 125% (and that's stretching it) of what the car's invoice is. Example...if u're 2000 upside down on a trade, that 2000 has to be added back to the selling price...let's say the selling price is 19000 and the invoice on that thing is 18,000...so now your selling price goes up to 21000, then after tt&l u're up to about 23000... so that puts u at 127% loan to value...most banks aren't gonna do that unless you have seriously good credit, and even if they do, the interest rate's gonna be up there...so u'd have to put at least 2000 down to cover the negative equity and get your loan to value down...banks look to finance about 105-115% normally...120 and over is kinda high...130 is almost impossible...so dont say the dealer wont pay off your trade, it's not his fault the thing isn't worth what you owe on it. you're obviously in the hole on that tundra and if u want out, stop waiting for someone else to throw u a ladder
ODUB, you're right, maybe I didn't explain myself right, my bad, my tundra is not worth $4800, it's what is the payoff amount as of now. I'm not in a hole with it, not at all, it almost makes me think, that you think, that i think (hehe...say that 3 times
) the dealer is an arse for not agreeing to my terms, but I total understand, I'm not in heat about it. But what the Tundra is doing is its mainly taking a portion of my paycheck, so obviously, I wouldn't be able to afford another $400 or so dollars a month for another car. My truck was $30K otd, for 3 years, so you can see why it is a $700 payment a month. My accord also, payoff amount is $4750, I don't know if a dealer would appraise it at KBB for trade in ($4225) or near Private Party value ($56XX). Retail is $71XX on it right now.
Speak of the devil, I just got back from another dealership, man they always have cute women that "help" you out...hehe, anyway, I presented the offer and exactly like you said, she can't do anything about the Tundra problem, but the price on the Coupe EX-V6 is really good in my opinion, I probably would have got it for $25K otd.
My Tundra will be paid off by November of this year, that frees up the money for something. The reason why I tried, was just in case a dealer was willing to do so, it never hurts to try. I like my current accord, I only wish it was a bit more peppier, I don't believe in the all other mods that people do to these cars, it's a 4-cylinder sedan and it was meant to be that way.
What I have been contemplating when December of this year rolls around, is either I trade in my accord for something else, but the EX-V6 coupe accord is kinda of at the bottom of the list, the choices I was looking at are the following:
1) Newest GTO from Pontiac
2) Infinite G35 Coupe
3) Volvo S60 R
4) Honda Accord EX-V6 Coupe 6-spd.
Or I may decide just to keep the Honda, and use the money in a savings account. I mean the car gets absolutely great gas mileage and in times like these, it's more economical to drive it.
Now you kinda understand what I'm getting at

pontiac is shit...resale sucks ass...that G35 is just a 350Z in a tux...i'd get the Z...volvo's are for old people...i'd go with the accord...we use NADA to appraise cars...to get a general idea of what your trade's worth, go to www.nada.com, click "what's it worth?" and book it out. use average trade in...the actual figure will probably be lower than that, how much lower depends on what the used car manager thinks the market value for that car in the area is...for example...somebody might bring in a hummer on trade...it's book value may be 30,000, but in our area there's no way we could sell that thing because we have no market for it...so we wouldn't be able to give as much as a dealer that sold alot of hummers...for future reference, KBB is shit... dealerships and banks go by NADA values for trade, loan, and retail. if i were u i'd just go ahead and trade the tundra in and just deal with the negative equity. you'll lose more money by waiting to pay it off. lets say you spend another 5000 (the 4800 u say you still owe plus interest charges), the average trade depreciates 150-300 a month depending on the vehicle...by the time u spend another 5000 to pay it off, it could be worth up to 1800 less than it is now, so u'll be losing at least 1800 just by waiting...not to mention the gas savings...if you spend an average of 200 a month on gas now, the accord probably get's up to 70% better gas mileage than that tundra...that would save you up to 140 a month in gas, in 6 months that's another 840 dollars bringing the total losses to 2640 just in gas and resale, not to mention the fact that honda's running special interest rates right now that wont be around in 6 months, and you said that the guy was willing to give u a hell of a discount on that accord...big sales like that only come around this time of the year, instead of wasting another 2640 in gas and resale, plus another 2000 in dealer discount, why not take advantage of the savings and get out of that tundra now? Also, if that tundra's out of warranty i'd definately take advantage of the savings on the accord NOW...why chance the engine, transmission or some other part with a 2000+ price tag going out? u get a car with full warranty, save you up to 140 a month on gas, could save u 200 or more a month on your note, why not take advantage of those savings today? i know i would if i were u.
Uh ODUB, I don't want to trade my Tundra in, that's the whole speel about this
, I love that truck alot, and that truck is my pride and joy. I don't drive it right now, because of gas prices, but that truck has proved useful for me in hauling stuff, getting through snow when I sometimes go snowboard in the winter, and it's in my opinion rides like a Lexus ride. Yes my Honda is absolutely great on gas, I drive that around alot these days too (I spend about $80-$100 a mnth on gas). I understand what your point is, but in my current situation, it deems it's unecessary to go through the hassle of trying to buy a new car now, I only presented my current situation to the dealer to see if they want to try and accomidate for me, just in case they could is all. Otherwise, with all my hard work and effort I put into the car (new paint, a big major tuneup such as timing belts, fluid changes, etc., new stereo, etc., etc., etc.) I am no rush to give it up, like I said quite content with the car, but if I had the opportunity to move into something newer, I will take the deal, that's all. But thanks for your info, that will help me out in the future.

now if there were rebates on the car that would be different...with the chevy's we have like 3500-5000 rebates right now...we actually ran an add saying that if u have other bills, like credit cards, open auto's, or loans that total up to like 4000, but u're paying like 500 a month on one, 200 a month on one and 100 on the other that you can just take the rebate, pay them all off at once, then just buy a new car...but nobody's gonna give u 4800 bucks to pay off a car with no rebate lol there's only like 2000 markup in honda's, a lot of time less than that
