Default Problem Starting Accord Please Help....

I am new to this forum. I own a 94 Accord 2-dr LX 5-speed manual.

For the past couple of months I was observing a strange problem on my car during start:

Action:
When I crank the ingnition switch from OFF position (I) to intermediate position (before START).
Observation: The Dashboard lights up and acts normal.

Action:
Then I try to start the engine by cranking the ingnition switch further into START position.
Observation:
It used to start after some tries. But, when it does not start I dont even hear the engine sound trying to start. However, I hear some system (may be the starter) giving a buzzing/humming noise just behind the firewall near the clutch, when the ignition switch is cranker fully.

I was lazy to attend to this issue. Now the car doesnt start at all. All I hear is the buzzing noise hehind the firewall described earlier.

I have checked the battery & tried to Jump start but does not work.

I dont have any experience with working on cars. But, from my research with Chilton & internet - I am suspecting the following systems (:
* Starter
* Ingnition Switch
* Neutral Start Switch
* Some related relay
* Loose wiring (near starter)

If you think its the starter : How do I access and where is it located.

Thanks!

Sounds like the starter to me.
I've tried this method once on my friends car.
While he was starting the car I took his club ( Steering wheel club ) and started to beat on the starter while he was cranking.

It started but he needed the car to make it to the autoshop to have it repaired. So if it works just keep in mind its temporary.

:werd: I heard of this trick before. Just beat the starter with something metal and see if that helps.

Default Ok... Where is it located?

Thanks for the advice...

Where is the starter exactly located & How do I access it? (I dont want to hit the wrong part)?

My chilton's manual gives me directions to replace/install the starter but... cant find the component location.

I want to try changing the starter myself. Any DIY on how to replace this will be greatly appreciated.

It's not DEFINITELY the starter. I too have this problem intermittently. I push start my car and it's good. I can't explain it. Same year, same model, same tranny, same problem.

PMG relay maybe then? I know it goes bad on the 4th Gen's (not sure of the 5th gen's);

Oh the horror of replacing that god forsaken relay that's up there in the dash, I still have nightmares about that relay! .

What is a PMG relay? How to test it?

Can anyone tell me how to locate & access the Starter...?

PMG relay has something to do with the circuitry to the fuel injectors I believe, I think the full name was PMG-FI. I don't know how to test it, but the local tech at my Honda dealership told me to replace it, and that solved the problem, I was just throwing out a possibility, that's all. Remember also, I'm saying this was a problem in the 4th gen, and yours is a fifth gen. How they tested it is beyond my knowledge, I haven't taken auto electronics course yet, and that won't be for another year or more.

As far as accessing the starter, do you have a manual to help you out? If not maybe I can fax some pages out the 1995 Accord service manual if you pm me a number.

Default Done!

I was able to get the car to start now. I found the following were the problems:
1. A cell in the battery was dead => I replaced the battery
2. I found that the Black/White wire to the Starter Solenoid a loose/disconnected. Fixed this thing.

And my car starts just fine... wanted to leave a note and let you guys know... Thanks!
