Default 03 Accord problem: solenoid on emission control

I just dropped off my 03 Accord Coupe, 4cyl, 5M at Capitol Honda. I got rattling sound on both doors :madfawk:

There is one more annoying thing. This only happens at random times. When you leave the car idle, sometimes I can hear tick-tick sound from the engine (just sit on the driver's seat and listen). It sounds like a helicopter engine. It's not too loud but irrittating enough for me.

When I was dropping off the car, I got one of the technician to ride with me. He said that the noise comes from the solenoid on the emission control.:bs: and.... Honda already published a newsletter to explain about it. He said that I am not the only one getting annoyed by the sound but there is nothing he can do about it.

What do you guys think? Is this guy lying or what? I don't even know where to get that newsletter.

I am not sure if the same problem happens on the V6.

If you want to try duplicating the problem, you can try turning on the A/C for about 1-3 minutes then turn it off. Then leave the car idle. You should hear it right away.

I too am experiencing rattling noises from both front doors...actually sounds like it is coming from the windows. I also am experiencing the "helicopter engine noise" that I agree is irritating! Some other issues and concerns are:

1) White strings coming out from the doors and seats

2) Fender guard trim peeling off

3) Rattle coming from upper driver's side dashboard that I have gotten fixed, but it came back.

I haven't had the time to take my car back to the dealer for the above problems...eventually I will...however besides these minor problems, I absolutely love the car. My family has 2 Mercedes, an 01 S55 AMG, and a 99 ML320. 2 Lexus, 98 LS400, 00 RX300 and my car doesn't feel the least bit inferior...(ok...well maybe to the S55)

i would never buy the first yr model/redesign of any car.... too many problems need to be worked out even on a Honda.... But call honda and ask someone else... demand it be fixed.

I also had the rattle in the dashboard. They will need to order you a new molding. Don't settle for it just being repaired.

I got the rattles on my dashboard gone by itself. I used to have the noise coming off the driver's area on the dashboard. When I get to around 600 miles, I never heard it anymore until now (I got 3500 miles now).

I am not concern of the rattles on the door. They can surely fix that. But I am more concern about the solenoid noise... tick-tack-tick-tack... drives me nuts.

Plus, if you use the windshield wipers when your car is idle, you can feel the movements on your gas/brake pedals.

I got my Check Engine light on the other day for one full day. But then, the light went out by itself and never come back on again. Don't tell me it was caused by the gas cap b'coz that's not the case. It was happening on Sunday so I got nowhere to check. Next time it happens on weekdays, I'll take it to a dealer.

I hate to hear that you are having so many problems, I would suggest that you take it in and let them keep it a day or so and get all of the bugs out, I had to do that with my 2000 and I was very happy with the results.

A lil update about the rattles, those rattles are gone. It's quiet now except that tick-tack-tick-tack sound. All they did was to lubricate some dry parts inside my doors.

I am still looking for the newsletter from Honda that explains the tick-tack sound. Please PM me if anybody knows where to find it.

For those who have the same tick-tack problem, you may want to visit your Honda dealer and have it checked. If they say the same thing as they told me, then my tech was not lying (just to get his @$$ of me ).... and please update me with the result. Thx.

I am gonna call Honda sometime today to confirm the issue.

Well, rattle was easily fixed! All it is is an issue with the seal on the weather strip on the outside frame of the windshield. They secure something, lube it up, and voila! Quiet as a doormouse. He said that he's had 4 cars in with the same problem already, so its a known thing.
