Well it is now Monday night and my brakes still haven't been replaced even though they were supposed to be finished last wednesday!!! It all began when I took my car in and told them exactly what the problem was, and I told them about the TSB that had been filed. They told me that they didn't know anything about it. So I took my car in that day for its 9:00 AM appointment and I was supposed to recieve a call by 11:00 AM at the latest. They finally called me back at 5:45, just 15 minutes before they close, to tell me that there was indeed a TBS report out and that I needed new brake pads. They were having the pads shipped from Washington and they were supposed to be in at 1:00 PM the next day, and that my car would be finished by 2:00 PM. When I was talking with the service guy he assured me that there was nothing wrong with my rotors, and that they were in perfect working order. That was until I got a call 2 hours after my car was supposed to be finished, telling me that I needed my rotors resurfaced and that they needed my car for a 3rd day in a row. To make this post shorter... I went into the dealership and I refused to have my rotors resurfaced, and I asked for new ones ( my car has only 4,000miles). They told me that they would have to call Honda headquarters and that they would get back to me by 10:00 AM this morning. Well it is now 9:45 PM and I don't think that they are going to call me!!!
My question is...... am I being difficult or would everyone else in my position ask for new rotors, not resurfaced ones. I know that if they were resurfaced that they would work fine, but its the principle behind it. This is the first new car I have ever owned, my car has 4,000 miles on it, and the dealership has been treating me like crap and walking all over me because I am a teen ager. Well sorry for this long post I am just venting a little bit of my anger toward my dealership!!!

jetski--

In my opinion, you have every right to be angry! My dealer has been fantastic about all this, and I think your dealer should be a little more considerate in the way they are handling you.

However, and this is JUST my opinion, I would let them by with resurfacing the rotors on this visit. I let mine go by with that at 3500 miles myself. The reason--the brake pads are the part that's causing the problem. Now if this issue came up again, I would NEVER let them resurface twice. Also, the TSB only calls for rotor resurfacing, and your dealer would have to pay for them if AHM didn't approve the rotor replacement.

However, you should be in a rental car or a damned good loaner during this period, and they should have had brake pads on hand for your car in the first place, after you had made an appointment for this issue. Additionally, I think they sound like idiots for taking a whole extra day to decide that your rotors need resurfacing, and the next day to do the work.

If this is the dealer where you bought your car, ask them to throw in a free oil change coupon for your trouble. And if they balk whatsoever, I think a call to Honda Customer Care is in order.

i work for honda, and all 03+ accords have very sensitive brakes.
I hear complaints about it all the time. If all you people complain about the brakes being too touchy, then why did you buy the car? When you testdrive a new accord, the brakes will feel touchey in that too. Its normal. However honda does have updated pads that may help.

Point taken fast93accord. I feel the same way when ppl complain about things they surely noticed during the test drive. My brakes have gotten much smoother now and are much easier to modulate, so there is something to look forward to after break-in.

However warped rotors at 3500 and again at 9500 miles is not acceptable. My dealer has been FANTASTIC about helping me out with it though. Some times I have been in awe about how smooth and almost pampering my service department operates!

I do understand though, about the sensitive brakes. I drive these cars everyday. I really dont like the way the brakes feel. The can stop fast, but its a verrry light pedal. Oh, and for the warped rotors, thats all about the way you drive your car. But i was always told, never buy a car the 1st year it comes out. Honda has a lot of little kinks theyve been working out.

WARPED ROTORS ARE NOT about how you drive the car in this case. If one person, two people get them thats one thing....so many people getting them is a defect, one which HAM acknowledges.

I used to drive a 98 Tahoe Sport...that is a beast and after I totally killed the brakes on that truck after 10K miles (rotors were black) I changed driving habbits....slowed down early yadda yadda...never had another problem. Now I have a lighter accord, with smaller brakes, granted. The fact remains that I still drive with keeping my brakes health well. My brakes were toast at 7K miles. You can tell I brake light since other people go about 3500. Sorry, this is a factory defect not driver error. I do agree about 1st year cars yadda yadda.

When I took my car in (June I think it was) my dealer was great. Drove it, then replaced pads and rotors...no resurface.

My dealership just got back to me today and tehy fed me a bunch of b.s. about if they were going to get new rotors for my car, then they would still have to resurface the rotors. They said that all of the new honda accord rotors that they put on have to be resurfaced, and that even when a new car comes in they are now resurfacing the rotors. I don't know a whole lot about cars but if you have to resurface the rotors on a car with zero miles, then there is a major design flaw! Has anyone else heard this or is my dealer just feeding me a bunch of crap???

Actually I just heard it today. I was a bit suprised, but I completely trust my service rep. He said that sometimes they are a little bit off right out of the box, but they drove these new ones and they seemed fine. He told me to come in anytime though if they act strange and they would double check.

Like I said before--one resurface I can deal with. Two, and I want a whole new set.

Good luck.
