I have an 03 accord 4 door 4 cylinder. It has only 3500 miles on it and since day one the brakes have been really touchy. My dealer told me that it would be like this for the first 1000 miles or so. My brakes are still touchy, but now whenever the car is cold and I am coming to a slow stop my brakes almost feel like the ABS is kicking in. There is a low grumbling sound and the brakes squeek. I am not sure if my car has something wrong with it or if all the new accords brakes do this when the car has not been drivin for a few hours. Any help would be great! I am new to this site but I relly like it!!!

 

Truthfully you should take it back to the dealer and have them worry about it.

If the problem with the brakes is something that is always happening and they can see the problem in a test drive they will probaly take care of it no problem since its still under warranty.

 

I have the same problem with mine too. I am going to dealer this week. They will check my brakes and they just changed my shockers, it has problems with it. Luckily i have extended guarranty! I will tell you about my it after I got it checked

 

I also have a 03 sedan and my brakes work perfectly, all the time - so, you should definitely bring your car in, it's not something that all new Accord brakes do (though it does sound like a lot of people have the same problem.)

 

Honda is having an issue with the brakes on the 03 many are warping...etc.

What you are experiencing is fairly common. That low grumble you hear is basically that on humid nights, the rotors get a bit rusty, when you take it out in the morning and it's still cold....your pads are rubbing off that rust...that is the gruble etc. As far as them being touchy....dunno...take to dealer.

 

There is a TSB out for this issue already, and Honda has authorized all dealerships via a memo to install new brake pads and resurface your rotors. Your dealer should already be aware of the fix when you call them.

 

Today I had the dealer replace my warped front rotors and cracked front brake pads on my 2003 Accord for the 3rd (that's THIRD!) time. I have 33,000 miles on the car but every 7,000 to 10,000 miles, the rotors and pads have had to be replaced!! Have you viewed the complaints at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (www.nhtsa.gov)Web site? Many have filed complaints for this same problem.

Apparently this problem is being experienced by thousands of '03 Accord owners!!

My driving is definitely not causing the problem, nor is anything else that I do lead to this problem. While the dealer has been great about the repairs, and because I have insisted each of the three times that the parts be replaced they have been replaced (rather than having the rotors turned), I am now faced with the likelihood of having the same issue arise again in 7,000 to 10,000 miles when the car will be out of warranty!!

I may have to file suit under the Lemon Law here in Ohio. I contacted Honda's main Consumer office today and was told that they would investigate the records at the dealer and get back to me. However, I feel that unless they replace the vehicle I will have to file suit. But because I am an attorney, I can do so without incurring attorney fees. I feel sorry for the other thousands of those who are similarly situated.

If my situation is not amicably resolved within the next two weeks, I will definitely be bringing this matter to the attention of the top level at the NHTSA, Consumers Union, the State Attorney General's Office here in Ohio, and other private/governmental organizations.

You should be very concerned about this, as there is every reason to believe that the cause is a design defect--and Honda knows about it!! Lastly, this is not an issue involving a radio knob falling off, or door trim separation---but BRAKES, which, naturally, is a critical and serious matter!!

 

You are quite right, but Honda is aware and from what I can tell are seriously working the issue.

Have your brake pads been replaced three times, and if so, were they replaced with identical components each time?

The shops are to now have brake pads made of a different material now that creates less heat and is generally more durable, so the new components should be a permanent fix.

Please let me know how your saga continues, and I will do the same.

 

hmm.. i took my car in cuz my brakes were acting like crap starting from like 25,000 miles.. i eventually took it in at 29,000.. they said warranty was up.. and pretty much said screw u.. and was gonna charge me to check it out.. i thought it might have to do w/ the abs.. cuz it would shake so bad sometimes.. but yea.. eventually i took it to somewhere else and got the rotors resurfaced and found out that pads had cracked.. so u think they would gimme new brake pads?.. i dunno.. my honda dealer really sucks.. if u guys ever go buena park honda.. dont expect the greatest service.

 

Isn't the warranty 3 years & 36000 miles??
