Just because Viper and Clifford are manufactured by the same company now in no way means they are of same quality. The clifford alarms all clown viper, hands down. Clifford has options Viper alarm owners could only dream of. While DEI owns Clifford, they are still built and have their own standards and protocol separate from DEI's Viper line of alarms. Same company owns them but Clifford is the Nike of the company while Viper is like the prowings.

a car with Clifford G4 equiped doesn't mean it is safer from the theft than a car with cheap viper. so there's no point to spend too much on an alarm.

what is a "good" alarm to you? What features do you want, need? I think $300 bucks would get you a pretty basic alarm w/some cool features like auto window roll down, keyless entry, trunk pop, stuff like that. Its gonna cost a bit more when you get into features like wireless immobilizers, digital tilt/motion sensors, dual stage proxy sensors, stuff like that. Alarms aren't that hard too install, the hardest part would be hiding the "brain" and blending the wires into the existing wires so it looks as if its all factory wiring. I've never done my own install though because when I've bought an alarm in the past, the install was free.

You mean they are both owned by the same company. The viper alarm isn't anywhere near as good as a clifford. As Kurt Angle would say, "oh yeah, it's true."

Right, an alarm alone isn't gonna eliminate theft. 100% true. But this is the difference. For example, I had a Viper 300ESP, it had a shock sensor on it but you had to actually touch the car in order for it to trigger it. On a clifford, you can get a dual stage proxy sensor that will trigger a warning chirp if you get within a user programmable area of the car. You don't have to touch the car at all, just get close enough and it will warn you. You can also get a digital tilt/motion sensor which will trigger the alarm if it comes off axis due to either being jacked up (trying to tow or steal rims) or by being pushed. Which is what they did to my car, pushed it out of the parking lot and then hot wired it. You can also get a wireless immobilizer which will interrupt any circuit you want it to be it, fuel cut off, ignition, starter, whatever. And no wires to trace hence the word "wireless". But to me, the icing on the cake is the fact that the Clifford alarms, unlike Viper, are built using "always on" circuitry. The clifford alarms have to receive a signal from the brain telling it to shut up, while the Viper needs to recieve a signal from the brain telling it to make noise. When you cut the wires on an alarm that is "always on" the siren will sound because its not getting the signal telling it to shut up. So while no alarm is gonna make your car 100% theft proof, a Clifford alarm will be alot more challenging and less likely than a car with a Viper alarm to be stolen. The key is layering security, alarm, locking device and especially FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE. A little bit of common sense doesn't hurt either.

i can add Clifford tilt sensor, proximity sensor and all that features to almost any alarm. in fact, i just ordered Clifford digital tilt sensor, all extra add on features and Alpine Sec-150 . you wanna know how much everything costs, 580 CND installed. but if i want G4 with all the accesories, the total will be close to 1000 CND. so wha'ts the point?

the point is that if something was to happen and you need a warranty replacement, it wouldn't be covered since you are using it with an Alpine system. Once again, the difference is that Clifford alarms are "always on", Alpine is "always off". This is a HUGE difference. The point is that Cliffords products are superior to just about all. Does that Alpine have an anti car jack feature on it? The clifford does, what happens is once you start the car, you have like 15 or 30 seconds to enter a 4 digit code via small numeric key pad that is installed where ever you want it. If you get car jacked, the jacker is gonna have to open the door right? Once that door is closed, if the codes isn't entered with the time limit then whatever circuit you have it wired to(most people wire it to fuel pump) is killed and the alarm goes off. Can't get too far in 15-30 seconds. They can cut all the wires they want, if you have a hidden self powered siren (like clifford does), the "brain" can't tell the siren to shut up so its gonna go off. Cut the wires to the blackjax (anti car jack system)? Siren will go off cause circiut is open, can't get the signal to shut up. See what the point is yet?
