why make a car capable of going at 90mph if n the entire us the speed limit is like 65mph top. so why not go faster if is there, it was made for a reason.

Imangine a world where everyone went speed limit all the time. How slow we would all go around neighborhoods, and on highways... and imagine no one tried crossing the intersection on yellow trying to beat the red. And everyone driving at safe following distances, and passing with safe room... wow that would be a boring place to drive in.

Don't get me wrong, I don't drive like a complete dork. I like speeding, and a race every now and then on the highway is a big rush, but I also know when it's time to drive serious and carefully. But at 3 in the morning when you are on the highway and there is not one single car on the road, but someone who wants to race with you... it would sure be awesome to go past 130 without having to hear the engine make that horrible sound at the fuel cut off. That's the only time that I have maxed out my car, in situations like that. With races on highways when there is more cars, I think I usually push to around 110 top.

Are you saying that the whole purpose of turbos, and upgraded exhausts, and engine swaps, engine build-ups, etc should just be to see who's car can reach a governed top speed of 65mph the quickest? I thought it was because we all want faster cars.

Well just because there is opening road at 3am doesnt mean that it gives you the option to speed around. Sure your car is capable of doing it but consider the risks.
You hit a big enough hole in the road, your gonna lose control,
someone cuts in front of you, will you be able to stop in time.
When PoPo is behind you trying to pull you over because your doing triple digit speeds what would you say?

also, since im familiar with Miami alot of kids kill themselves because of speeding!. I should know my brother and sister were killed in a car accident because of speeding. He almost got me killed to in a previous accident.

Turbos were originially designed for Trucks. ( 18 wheelers etc..)
One person incorporated a turbo into their car to race in the quarter mile track. ( 1/4 mile track safe conditions )

Dont get me wrong. I speed around on the highway also but, since I almost got myself killed I dont do that anymore.

At 115+ miles per hour anything can cause your car to veer off the road or even cause you to loose control.

Keep it in the track.

I hit 138 in my 98 EX Coupe, automatic. I was illegally racing this BMW 4 door something with HIDs and they must've cut off at 135 because their car was jerking and yay the Accord pulled away ever so slightly.

RPM was about 5,400 in 4th gear. The car didn't "cut out", I just ran out of power::weight

IT's all about torque, gearing and RPM's. The wind applies a force that is trying to slow the car down. You engine produces a force called torque. The torque is applied through your gearbox to the wheels. This is called "tractive force" and it's pushing against the wind.

in 4th gear, even though you might make less torque at 5500RPM vs 4500RPM in 5th gear, the lower gear ratio gives you more force to the pavement.

Horsepower is nice number to measure to performance of the engine, but doesn't tell you the how a car will actually accelerate.

You can take 2 identical car, same weight, same engine, but give one car a 6 speed transmission, and the second a 5 speed transmission... both wiht optimised gearing, and the 6 speed will out acclerate the 5 speed almost every time... even despite having to shift one more time.

Didn't someone say the 6th gear was usually for EPA MPG booster thingies?
