Some lag is good. Who in their right mind would want to be fully boosted at idle? That's just ridiculous, if you were fully boosted at idle, launching would be a bitch.

you changed the clutch and lost .2 seconds, not bad. its only a N/A car, turbo cars need load to spool the turbo...obviously i cant get enough load if there is not gripping of the clutch, that is the difference from n/a to boost.
Turbo cars need load to spool? WTF are you talking about?!?!rbos need exhaust gas velocity and volume to spool. The car doesn't have to be moving to boost. Revving the motor will cause it to boost.

i wasnt there to grab 60 foot times. i didnt even bother launching, unless 1500K rpm is waht you would call a launch.

Right, you didn't even bother to launch. What is the point of going to the track if you're not going to give it 100%. A majority of your time is attributed to your launch. So don't sit there and tell me tha you weren't try to get a good launch. 1500K, yeah that's what I was launching at with my bad clutch, feathered ever so lightly. Still managed to run a consistent 15.2 with a bad clutch.

yes, i could beat a integra/rsx/civic Si so on and so on, on the street, but i can get beat by a geo metro at the track.
I agree, the track is very different than the street. I still don't believe everything you say.

not bad, they are aweful. 2.49 was the best..that is gay, that is when i lowered the tire pressure to 20psi. i weigh in at 2200 lbs i should be at 2.1-2.2s all day long...

and my clutch is as bad as i am saying, just look at the mph at the 1/8 mile, they are all differnt.

It's a D16, it's not a Mustang, don't expect a 2.1. Yes, I always knew your hatch was a fat pig. You just confirmed it. All the 1/8th tells me, is that you are an inconsistent driver. I'd love to face you in bracket racing.

Little reality check here...

A D16 can run a 14 if boosted properly, and traction exists. All it takes to run a 14 with FWD is 160hp at the wheels and good shifts. Just don't ever plan on beating that, though.

Go here to test that theory...
http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm

...And as far as I'm concerned, Honda doesn't even make a "drag motor". Weigh the internals of any of their engines, and you'll see what I mean. If you want a factory drag motor, you're going to have to time-warp back to the late-60's or early 70's. Fuel economy and emissions are not building-blocks of drag racing.

A modern "drag motor" is a built motor with non-OEM internals that are designed to take extreme abuse for a few seconds. Not an economical one that's lucky enough to hold 7 PSI on stock internals, and just happens to have a turbo hanging off of it or a bottle in the trunk. The D series rotating assembly isn't built to take much abuse, and in order to make a D series a "drag motor", almost everything inside it would need reinforcement and/or replacement.

So please... wherever it came from... squash this "drag motor" talk unless you've got aftermarket forged pistons/crank/rods/ARP hardware/steel gaskets/sleeved block/dry-sump oil pan/o-ringed head and a titanium valvetrain. Nobody here has one. It's not worth arguing over. Determining which Honda engine is better for drag racing all depends on who you are trying to beat, and how much money you can burn doing it. Set goals.

:sigs:

for my car to spool up it needs to be in motion, ie, if i rev my motor, it wont boost, unless i build alot of pressure, and it will go to 2psi at most. the car has to be MOVING. :slap:

yeah, my car is a pig, what do you expect for an Si, 2000lbs with 3 passengers? its lighter than factory, so im happy, only weight reduction i have is C/F hood. i ran with full interior.

Yes, it's that simple, all it takes is 160 whp to hit 14. It's not that simple. Shit my 140 bhp can hit 15.00 damn near 14.999. You aren't even taking into account that his car is nearly 300 pounds heavier than mine. Sure mine makes less horsepower and torque, but it has less to move, sprung and unsprung weight. That's why it's a theory and not a law, because it can be disproved.

Nope, sorry. It needs load. Either load, or a stutterbox from a stop. A stutter box will allow you to build boost because the throttle plate will be wide open instead of partially open, and enough airflow will make it through the head to push the turbine. It really works like that. Load creates exhaust gas volume. You're not creating enough exhaust sitting still to spool it unless you're at WOT, and you still won't be able to build enough boost to crack the wastegate open, either. Maybe just a few PSI.

I'm not busting your chops, just making sure people don't think their turbo is broken based on this thread. You have other valid points.

I agree with you. But I plugged 2700lbs into the equations before posting that just in case he's so overweight that he should be on Jerry Springer. I certainly did take that into account.

You'e right, to reach full boost, you need a load, but a turbo is capable of boosting without a load. I'm sorry if I implied that you don't need a load to reach full boost.
