I have a civic CX chassis. I put a .020 overbored 0-mile DX motor in my 250lbs-lighter-than-a-DX chassis (because I have NO options or even power steering on my car). It has the 56mm throttle body, DX manifolds, STRAIGHT loud-as-hell exhaust (see my thread from yesterday if you want to hear it), no cat/muffler, cold air intake with K&N, and can't beat a 17.95 at 75mph. I don't have a stereo, speaker box, spare tire or anything else heavy added to it, and ran it with less than an 1/8th of a tank of gas. That was the best of 6 runs, and I was only 1 1/2 car lengths behind a Toyota Celica GT-S when I did it, too.

My stock CX with the muffler chopped off ran a best of 19.98 at 65.52 mph.

Are you sure the 15.9 isn't his 1/8 mile time? A 210 hp Turbo Eclipse runs 15.2's from the factory. There's just no way a DX could do that. A GT mustang runs 15.7's. Many people with turbo'd civics run high 14's.

You should be thrilled if you get on the track for the first time and your civic runs a high 16. When you finally do, it's better for you to worry about getting a good launch and fast/smooth shifts than cutting a good tree. Worry about the tree after you get your car down.

How far away is the nearest track? If you want to know what your car will do, go to the track and find out. Doing mag racer math to find out what you'll do in the 1/4 is lame.

Never been to the track? Don't expect to dip into the 15s...sorry, it's the truth, the track really tells people that HAVE NEVER raced competitivly that they need to learn how to drive better, it's more of a learning tool that bragging rights to me. I've learned a lot about racing in the last 4 years, just don't expect GREAT times if you ever go for the 1st time racing.

He's right. Might be worth a drive. I don't know how far these are from you. I sometimes drive 2 1/2 hours from my house to race even though there are 2 tracks witin a half hour of where I live ( I hope I don't break ). I'm SURE there's more tracks, just whether or not they have websites...

Lebanon Valley Dragway, NY
http://www.dragway.com/

New England Dragway, NH
http://www.newenglanddragway.com/

The past 11 runs I've made, I've dropped almost 3/4 of a second without changing any parts. I'm just starting to really get to know the car on the track. What knock is and how to prevent it, what tire pressure to use for a good launch, where the sweet spots shifting are... Gone from a 14.19 to a 13.50, but it's time to take that car off the road and go through it again now.

My first 3 runs in the civic were 18.4's before I somehow managed the 17.95. There really is a groove to it.

hahaha 15.9 1/8 mile? GEEEZ that's not right, it would be a 20+second 1/4 mile pass. I run a 9.0 @ 81 mph in the 1/8th. Hell my friends V6 F150 with i/e/chip ran a 11.1 @ the 1/8 mile. There are some freak cars out there, i'm not sure about a dx with i/e running high 15's, maybe an EX.

In any case you are probably talking about a pre 99 mustang gt cause the 99+ GT's can dip into the 13's stock and my turbo civic runs low low 14's and possibly 13's

Well, I don't know about new GT's dipping into 13's cause my brother in law has been trying for a year and his best is a 14.6. And no way in hell will and EX with bolt-ons touch 15's. Do the math. I have a 88 CRX HF completely gutted, 14" wheels, with a B16A that dynoes at 145Hp to the wheels and my best before mods was a 14.4. After exhaust, intake, header, and slicks, my current best is a 13.89. This is in a car that roughly weighs about 1850lbs. I realize my CRX has a lot more potential but still, No way 15's in an EX with bolt-ons.

15.9 second 1/8 mile was a joke, really. But seriously... my CX did something like that before I did the DX swap. It was pathetic.

No, I wasn't talking about the 99's, either. The GT's are slow. I see dozens of them at the track every time I go and none of them are running better than 14.5. Most of their drivers circle my car like buzzards in the pit lane wondering how the hell my 2.0L can get away with wearing a 13.35 dial-in time. :whip:

I think you might be trans-muxing the SVT or Cobra Rustangs. Those are the only ones I've seen break a 14. They're all just as ugly, so they're pretty easy to confuse.

I didn't mean to say that a turbo'd civic can't run faster than a 14, they can. Just that I haven't seen a streetable one really do it yet. Your car is an exception to what I've witnessed, and I bet you've put all kinds of work into it. It takes time and practice to run that fast. What did it run when you first bolted your turbo kit on, and how long have you spent tuning it since then?

I definetely agree with you...i had my turbo kit on my car about a year now. When i first slapped it on with a fmu @ 5.5-6 psi it was nowhere near as fast as it now. Other than an exhaust and safc i don't really have any other mods though. I went with the dsm 450's and AFC and had some dyno time to eventually be running the times i'm running now. I do see a ton of 6 psi greddy sohcs that are still probably in the high 14's range.
