how many quarts of oil to use? (reply fast puhlease!!)

How long will it take to "ruin" something if I have 4 quarts instead of 3.5? cuz I'll probably have to drive to my cousins to do it (apartment complex throws a shiat fit)
plus I drove around all day as well..

should be 3.5 for the 1.6 and 4.5 for the 1.8

I could have sworn the damn owners manual says 3.8 quarts for a D16Y8, that's what I always put in, 110k miles later, it still runs and doesn't leak.

BTW, if you've done a swap (like a B18), use an aftermarket oil pan, added a turbo/supercharger (which taps the oil system), and or any other thing like this, etc, your oil requirements are probably different. (And beyond the scope of this discussion.)

I'm really thinking I might just stop by a Honda dealership and ask, or maybe call and ask.
But i'm thinking 4 quarts is now biggie, just I don't want my oil to "froth" up and kill stuff..

I'm sure 4 qts is fine. But people are idiots if they think by my saying "more than what the manual specifies" to equivicate "immediate frothy death". The deal is that the more oil you put in, the higher the level and the greater the chance it sloshes up to the crankshaft (because you're car does jiggle around). Something extreme like 8 qts (pulling a number outta the air) will definitely be a problem. So, between 3.5 (as the manual states) and 8-ish is a grey area of risk, just varying severity of risk. Nothing is perfect, not even the recommended 3.5 qts since you could find some extreme (but rare) case that would cause that to have problems.
