The reason why you don't put more than you need is because the oil level will be so high in the oil pan that the crankshaft (which is just above the oil pan and spinning at a very high rate) will froth up the oil. Frothy oil is very hard for your oil pump to circulate if at all and you'll LOSE lubricatioin due to this.

So if you put too much, pull the drain plug to drain some out to the right level.

How long will it take to "ruin" something if I have 4 quarts instead of 3.5? cuz I'll probably have to drive to my cousins to do it (apartment complex throws a shiat fit)

plus I drove around all day as well..
