I'm sure 4 qts is fine. But people are idiots if they think by my saying "more than what the manual specifies" to equivicate "immediate frothy death". The deal is that the more oil you put in, the higher the level and the greater the chance it sloshes up to the crankshaft (because you're car does jiggle around). Something extreme like 8 qts (pulling a number outta the air) will definitely be a problem. So, between 3.5 (as the manual states) and 8-ish is a grey area of risk, just varying severity of risk. Nothing is perfect, not even the recommended 3.5 qts since you could find some extreme (but rare) case that would cause that to have problems.
