Default Header question.

My friend is installing the header, and the flanges dont meet the cat perfectly....also, the spring loaded bolts wont bring it closed. I never had this problem, and just used the spring bolts on the cat, and regular bolts on the back side.

Can regular bolts be used here to bring it true, or are the spring bolts required? I'd say just bolt it closed personally, but want to be sure for his sake.

*DO NOT USE REGULAR BOLTS* the spring bolts are there to absorb the engine torque and regular movement of the header pipes.

Using regular bolts can cause cracks in the header, bust bolts while driving, or worse screw up the studs on your block.

Only way I would advise using regular ones is if you were only driving like 5 minutes away to your closest muffler shop.

Thats what i figured afer some thought...it slipped my mind that the engine moves around when i posted....brain dead moment. I realized this when discussing w/ him. As i said, i didnt have the issue when i did the same install on my car.

SInce its not my car, and i was not actually there working on it, i had to rely on his description. come to find out, he bent the flange while installing. What i had him do was use reg bolts to flush it and bend everything back, then put the spring bolts back on.

Thanks XScarAudio!

Yeah the DC SPorts 4-2-1 header was a bitch to install even with a help of a friend. I didnt think it would be. It was a REAL tight fit and we only got it on with the flange to the connector pipe bent. I'm not sure if that was a good or a stupid idea. The connector pipe wouldnt align correctly with the cat and even with the bolts and the springs on, it wasnt a tight fit and I was getting exhaust leak. After reviewing it for a while, I said **** it and took it to a shop. They fixed it.

I had a DC sports 4-1 and when I installed it, I had to remove the slave cylinder to install it. What a bitch that was...
