:fawk: did you kick there as.s??!
the way i see it, if you are gonna go with a lightweight honda and are gonna use it for the track, i suggest you try and find either a CTR, ITR, or even a GS-R motor and drop it into ure civic. Like many of the above posts, its really hard to get 250hp with an N/A setup. My advice, dont go through the trouble of doing a CRVTEC or even an LS/VTEC swap. those motors are for people who plan to put a lot of forced induction in their engines since the two motors can handle the most boost with stock internals. Since you're gonna use your car at the track, 200hp is probably more than enough with a lightweight civic. just my 2 cents

The type-r head is NOT a port/polish B18C head. its port/polish B16A head. The B16A head was found to flow better than the B18 head, so they used that when specing out the type-r motor
Power is also in the gearing. If your going track and N/A the type-r tranny is the way to go.
Buying a type-r swap and then ripping it apart and boring/building it up is like purchasing the factory alloy wheels and spoiler for your car when you know your just going to take them off and go aftermarket. why pay for the same stuff twice?

I agree with everything you said, but I guess I was under the (incorrect) impression that getting 250 N/A CRANK hp (requirement stated by the original poster) would not require that "huge" of a build-up (having to bore the block for example) using a B18C5 as your starting point.
Is it common for gsr owners to replace the B18C head with a port and polish B16A head? Again, let me know if I should take this to the engine forum, but incublinkus seems to know his sh!t down cold
I saw a video of Tony the Tiger's all-motor gsr doing some runs; incredible is all I can say

Yeah you can slap a B16 head on a B18 block. no point in a type-r head because your going to have to get the combustion chambers machined to match the bore of your pistons, then get repolished/ported whatever. Plus you'll probably want to mess with the valvetrain.
honestly the only thing worthwhile from a type-r in this case is the tranny. But you could always just mod a GSR tranny as well...
