There's actually 2 holes. One is for your base idle adjustment screw on the throttle body, and the other is for the AICV. This is how your engine stays running when the throttle plate is closed.

ok, look at the picture, and see if this helps diagnose my idling woes.

when i plug this holes with my finger the idle returns to normal i and i get no other hissing or vacuum noises... but it is holding a lot of vaccum on my finger...and when i release it very audibly sucks a lot of air continually.

That's the one from the AICV alright. I guess your AICV is not closing properly. Out of curiosity, what color are the wires on your AICV harness? If the AICV is clogged, it won't suck air like that, the car would stall and die. That leads me to believe the problem is electrical. It's supposed to suck air in as you described, but it's sucking in too much.

By the looks of the throttle body, you're working with a D15B7, aren't you? If the intake manifold is the wrong manifold, that's one of the things that could cause this because the idle control valves are different. Can you snap a shot of the manifold on this thing, and maybe the wires on the AICV?

My car did this after a swap, and I know it can be very frustrating. Be patient and you'll get it worked out. The engine runs, so it won't be anything internal. My car cycled from 1000-1900 rpms twice a second. It turned out to be two electrical connections swapped as I described before. It was getting the wrong signal, and you could audibly hear it (AICV) opening and snapping shut.

Yeah, something's definitely weird. That's the right harness. How fast is your idle cycling up and down?

i'd say once every 2-3 sec's

with the iacv un-hooked it idles from 12-13 hundred real quick, like every half second...

frm-frm-frm-frm-frm-frm-frm-frm-frm....

I still think it's a vacuum leak. If the ECU can't bring idle under control down to 750 RPMs, it continuously cycles the AIC until it gets it in range, if it can't, it will start to pull the ignition out of the mix, too. The only reason it would idle high is from getting too much air. Try the carb cleaner thing I mentioned in my 4th post.

Yes. That is the stock cam gear for a '92 DX or d15b7. It also appears to be the same intake manifold as well. If you want some detailed pics of a complete 92-95 d15b7 to be sure, they're in my civic page in my sig. Should be plenty of pics in there on an engine stand, so you might be able to tell better than I can.
