that's a reason i rent a space at the do-it-yourself shop and use the life. it is much safer that way. for 4.50 an hour, i changed oil and filter and rotate my tires yesterday in addition to coating bare metal parts with a layer of oil to prevent rust.

i jacked from the tow hook.. doesn't get the jack points high enough to get the jack stands underneath.. hell i dont even think the tires were fully off the ground. i took it down and then measured the full height of my jack. from the ground to the base of the cup on the jack it measures 14.5"

any one recommend a certain type of jack then?

Wow, I thought those 2 ton or 3 ton floor jacks would get the car high enough off the ground so that you could put jack stands at the rear jacking points.

That's exactly what I do with my sears 2 ton floor jack. I use the tow hook to jack up the rear of the car and I could get it high enough so that I could use the two jack stands at the rear jacking points.

Put a block of wood on the floor jack and you'll gain as much height as the size of the block of wood. Be careful.

thanks for the input.
i had to work on the car today so hears what i did. i took a peice of wood, drilled about a 1" diameter hole in it real quick and jacked from the subframe where the lca bolts up. i drilled the hole because the lca actually is a bit lower than the two parts of the subframe and the hole was the quickest way for that bit of the lca to sit in the wood.

also, i mentioned that i have V shaped jack stands.. and that the V was too deep for the jack point bars to hit the middle before the outside part of the V hit the side skirt.. so i took my zip cut and cut about 1/4 off the top of the Vs.. now i have a perfect jack stand for the jack point bars. and cutting off the tops doesn't affect it structurally cuz its still holding the car in the dead center of the V.
