i've had a bunch of friends telling me to stay away from walmart and telling me stories about the idiots there. one of my friends got his oil changed and they didn't tighten the oil filter and if fell off and drained all his oil all over the parking lot of his apartments...

they get trained by walmart, for walmart. anyone can get a job there. kinda scary.

but anyway, to clear my code now, i just take off negative cable for like 10 minutes right?

if it's off when you start up the car again, you don't need to reset it. it will just stay stored for the next time.
The oil is definitely the cause of the code. The first thing I'd do are compression and leak down tests. No visible leaks? Oil pan plug? could be coming from lots of places...

One thing that will cause the rings and bearings to wear out is rev it when it's cold. Before the engine gets to operating temp, it's basically a disaster waiting to happen. Make sure you let it warm up and get some oil in there before you rag on it. Also, driving it as long as you did with that little oil could have caused a lot of damage to the valve train, bearings, rings, etc.

Common, if the oil is low Vtec will not engauge to protect the engine.

the car was really sluggish up the mountains with the ac on, and i was driving it a bit hard, nothing crazy. about half way there, the check engine light comes on. i immediately pulled over and checked everything out. nothing appeared wrong, so i started it back up (light went off) and babied it the rest of the way.

On the way back i was driving it really hard. Car was running perfect, hauling ass, passing everyone. About 5 miles from phnx, the light comes back on. I just finished the ride home. Car runs fine while the light is on.

So just about 20 minutes ago, i was on the highway (speeding as usual) and when I hit 110mph the light came back on. Then on the way home, when i would get on it, sometimes it would feel like vtec was kicking in late or something. It would be lacking power, then all of a sudden it would kick in.

I haven't gone out to see what code it's throwing yet, but you guys have any ideas? car has 113k. thanx.

Where do you live so I can avoid those highways? :eh:

But anyway he's right, vtec will not engage if oilpressure is low, not nesc to protect the engine, but because vtec is engaged by oil pressure.

It's engauged by the ecu, not oil pressure....

first off it is ENGAGED by oil pressure secondly I'm sure the ecu does do something for vtec but it still is ENGAGED by oil pressure.

It needs oil to work sure but the ecu controls it. If it's oil pressure that engauges it at least explain why you think you're right instead of repeating what someone else said. I'm not even going into how it works to prove I'm right when you're saying stuff like "I'm sure the ecu has something to do with it". Learn about it before you post please.
