Default My first problem with my civic.

Ok, sunday we decided to go up north to the grand canyon. I didn't wanna take the civic, but i said what the hell.

the car was really sluggish up the mountains with the ac on, and i was driving it a bit hard, nothing crazy. about half way there, the check engine light comes on. i immediately pulled over and checked everything out. nothing appeared wrong, so i started it back up (light went off) and babied it the rest of the way.

On the way back i was driving it really hard. Car was running perfect, hauling ass, passing everyone. About 5 miles from phnx, the light comes back on. I just finished the ride home. Car runs fine while the light is on.

So just about 20 minutes ago, i was on the highway (speeding as usual) and when I hit 110mph the light came back on. Then on the way home, when i would get on it, sometimes it would feel like vtec was kicking in late or something. It would be lacking power, then all of a sudden it would kick in.

I haven't gone out to see what code it's throwing yet, but you guys have any ideas? car has 113k. thanx.

the method to check the codes is in the archives at the top of this forum. Let us know what the code is.. Sounds almost emissions related I think

code 22
VTEC Oil Pressure Switch defective circuit or unplugged / defective oil pressure switch
which is what i thought because like i said, vtec was engaging late.

would it throw this code if it is low on oil? or is it for sure the switch is fux0rd?

i'm guessing my car is jus burning alot of oil. i have regular oil changes, and i am about 300 miles before my next change was scheduled. but i checked it about 2 weeks ago, and it was low so i added half a quart.
hmmmmmmm...

just checked oil. nothing showed up on the dipstick. i put a quart and a half in there, and now level is right above the first hole on the dipstick...is that normal operating range? the dipstick just has two little holes on it.

Actually Walmart isn't all that bad. I changed my oil there a few times when I lived one summer in Cleveland when I had no garage.
