Default transmission housing removal

i'm trying to take the transmission housing apart from the clutch housing but something seems to not be co operating.
i've taken all the bolts off around the housing, and followed the steps in the helms except for removing the snap ring under the sealing bolt because i just don't see how that can be done.

i've cracked open the housing, theres a 2 mm gap between the trans and clutch housing but it ain't coming off.
what am i missing?

thanks

frank

Did you remove the starter? One of the starter bolts goes all the way thorugh the transmission housing and bolts to engine block and has to be removed (it's an easy one to miss). I just typically pull the starter and use it's hole for a handle to steady the tranny when putting it back up. Assuming all the bolts are out, I typically lower the jack under the tranny aim it down a little and just work a few big screwdrivers around the edge. I have a big pry bar I use sometimes to break it loose. There are 2 (maybe 3, I don't quite remember) hollow metal dowel pins that line everything up and that's probably what your stuck on. If you have a second body, get them to grab the tranny and pull back while you pry at the front edge with something. That usually works.

Oops, sorry, I thought you meant pulling to tranny off the engine itself. I belive when you remove the furthest socketed cap (the one a socket fits into) there is a snap ring inside. I haven't pulled one apart myself yet so I can't really give you much advice. Can you get a small screwdriver in there to help pull the ring out of place? Can you adjust the snap ring pliers to compress it some more?

the snapring is tough and the way its shaped it doesn't hold well to the pliers. i'm thinking its a two man job so my buddy's going to help, one opening the snap ring manually with screw drivers and the other lifting the housing

i figured it out after i turned the trans upside down and everything felt like it was going to come apart, except for the snapring holding it together still

thanks
