Oops, sorry, I thought you meant pulling to tranny off the engine itself. I belive when you remove the furthest socketed cap (the one a socket fits into) there is a snap ring inside. I haven't pulled one apart myself yet so I can't really give you much advice. Can you get a small screwdriver in there to help pull the ring out of place? Can you adjust the snap ring pliers to compress it some more?
