EF Civic Si/Dx
A car that has won Nationals (pedigree) and all the research and tuning have been done already. That's already worth like $10k.
He has replaced just about every piece on the car with newer/better parts. I think he even took off the undercoating, repainted it and re-undercoated it. Engine has been rebuilt, LSD, axles, bushings, suspension arms, etc.... That's about $5000. Then he has done all the test and tuning for your which is probably $3000.

It's a stock VLSD that he rebuilt.

The CRX DX had a dpfi 90hp engine...it also had longer gears but still a 5 speed manual.
The CRX Si came with mpfi (about 15 more hp) but the powerband was much flatter compared to the DX so it make much more power for a longer time. The Si also had much shorter gearing making it accelerate very well (in addition to its smaller diameter wheels).
Also, 90-91 CRX Si's also came with rear discs (where all DX's had drums)
You can make a DX very quick...mine is built for H5 / ITC specs...it has a chipped ecu, competition head, retains DPFI and it has the Si gearing in the dx transmission (had to keep stock transmission case)...I also have rear drums but they do a good job as the car is not too heavy (about 2050lbs with me in it)

If you are looking at an Si, you save 180-200 pounds getting an 88-89 over a 90-91. The discs and 3 hp don't really make up for it. The Si also has a rear sway bar.
You will find out next year when my EG Si is done

The 1988 Si was the lightest of the Si models as it didn't have the side impact beams (a good 20-30lbs extra weight).
1989-1991 Civic SI had 14s
as well as the 1992-1995s
Yeah but you still have to run more than a 1/2 tank of gas compared to the 1991 Civic which you could run near damned empty.
Full tank of gas = 70lbs. So both the 1989 and the 91 could be almost the same weight.

Yeah I used to work QA/QC so I'm a bit anal. You'll find out that most SERIOUS autocrossers are worse than me
