But I don't want to slip my clutch to launch...

Ask anyone dropping your clutch at 8000rpms compared to 4000rpms is not going to make up 1.5-2 seconds on an autocross course unless the course is like 10 seconds long.
obviously you never competed with an s2k before.. you shouldn't flame others on matters you have no experience in.

if you're going to drop clutch at 4k rpm in a s2k, mind as well just do a rolling start cuz it doesn't do anything.

Apparently you don't know what cars I've driven. I don't flame people. Sorry you think that. You are entitled to your opinion as well as I.

I still stand by what I say in that you do not loose 1.5-2 seconds on a launch. If that was true everyone would be doing 8000k launches. I was at Nationals in 2004 and watched Jason Sanini and his co-driving driving their Mugen sponsored S2000. And not once did he do a 8000k clutch drop. And he has won Nationals 2 years in a row. WHat does that say?

ok.. the 1.5-2 sec was an exaggeration to express the point of s2k.. but it does lose a minimum of a full second by not launching.. when i say not launching, i mean about 8k.. not 4k..

what is this ask anyone thing? s2k isn't your typical everyday auto-x car that launches the same as all the others out there.. i normally launch around 2500 to 3k on almost all cars.. i don't know what cars you've competed with, but i know s2k isn't one of them or else you would have never said 4k launch was ok..

not all courses require a launch. there are some courses that start with a right/left hand turn where you can get away with not losing too much time.. but you WILL lose some.. every hundredth counts already, you'll lose tenths.. but 60% of our courses start with a straight or a slight curve.. the nationals this year had the north course with a somewhat slight angle, and the south had a right hand turn.. i know who jason is, and you should ask him.. even for the courses with a right hand turn at 10 ft. he launches over 6k rpm.. you can even ask ian stewart who ran the s2k last year and took 3rd.. (or was it 2nd?.. i'm pretty sure 3rd.)

..p.s. i was running an asp s2k with 275 rear tires.. even on stock wheels with street tires, a 6k launch will yield nothing.

*additional unrelavent fact: on any course that starts with a straight, you'll lose a second if you don't launch in an evo..

All National courses have somewhat of an angled start to prevent AWD vehicles from getting an edge.

I hate argueing with people on the boards. If it works for you then great.

Then why start one? ..it's not a matter of "If it works for you then great." it works for all serious auto-x compeititors because the alternative is major bog for a few seconds..

anywho.. drive an s2000 at autocross then let me know your thoughts.
