Default Shifting Question

I know that most auto-x coursed don't really let you get above 50 or so. So I was wondering how you shift while driving. I drive an integra gsr so I can get up to 62 in 2nd. Almost seems that I should stay in second the whole time unless I screw up. I think there would be some serious lag if I try to cram it in first while going 20 mph. Let me know what you guys do.

Thanks

that about covers it

My national champion winning friend still does it this way, except in some extreme cases.

He helped me shave 1.5 seconds off this one course by telling me to stay in second, slow down more for this one section but get back on the gas sooner and full throttle by exit. It was a really tight S leading to a short straight.

shifting into 1st was costing me at least 1 second.

It'd be a tough heel-toe if you wanted to do it. But staying in second sounds like good advice. Your GS-R should have enough pull down low.

on very rare cases have I ever shifted to 3rd. One airport up in North Central PA.

And rarely have I ever downshifted to 1st unless it was the dinky little autocross hosted by the Corvette club.

That's a good thing because my car hates to go into third.
So basically you stay in second gear? You have no problems with the B16a doing that? I'm going to run something pretty close to what you are. Do you have an open diff?

In most cases (95% of the courses) you leave it in 2nd. Also in most cases downshifting to 1st and back to 2nd you will loose time. Also some people loose their rhthym by shifting gears because you upset the balance of the car in doing so killing/wasting more time.

There was one event last year that was all 1st gear. And that was a Corvette event believe it or not. I tried shifting to 2nd but it was all u-turns and had no power coming out of the corners. IN 1st I hit redline a couple times on course but was 4 seconds faster leaving it in 1st. I was also the fastest car in the morning by about 5 seconds

My 2000 Honda Civic Si's tranny and engine are just like the rolled off the showroom floor sans short shifter and bolt ons.
