Default But I don't want to slip my clutch to launch...

I keep reading that the fastest launch requires clutch slippage and is a good chunk of a second. Do people do this in the stock class and if so are they just eating through clutches?

I guess to be competitive, you do?

I know some guys who have over 100,000 miles on their cars and 10 years of autocross on it and still on the first clutch.

Also realize it's not a drag race launch. You have about 10 feet to build up to speed before the timing lights start.

I agree with Mike's comments, its not like drag racing so your clutch isn't take that bad of a beating.

I am sure Mike would be ok with that, he is a great resource for help on and off the track, but he's on the other side of the country.

You don't HAVE to drop the clutch at 8000rpms. You're just asking for a new clutch.

Sure if you move to this side of the US

Sean is being too graceful. Although I like helping out people because if someone didn't help me out to understand autocrossing when I 1st started I wouldn't be here today either.

well.. if you don't, you're a full 1.5 to 2 seconds slower.. so you don't HAVE to unless you want to win, or if the competition really sucks (which is not the case in my region)

You do not loose 1.5-2 seconds from a launch. Apparently you are loosing 1.5-2 seconds somewhere else on the course - which means it's the driver.

Ask anyone dropping your clutch at 8000rpms compared to 4000rpms is not going to make up 1.5-2 seconds on an autocross course unless the course is like 10 seconds long.
