nuclear power != a viable alternative
ethanol was ALREADY being produced in home during the 1920's, (damn 19th amendment!), electricity requires solar panels, wind turbines, fuel to burn, etc, etc, etc/

Ethanol evaporates pretty fast. I think that's why it wasn't initially practical.

Today we can better seal our fuel systems and recover vapors.

Good question.

With the current rate of petroleum consumption and assuming the rate of new sources found is kept constant, we'll run out of petroleum in 2050 years.

Oh, and ethanol isn't "unlimited".

Ethanol is used to increase the octane value, and yeah, there's not enough ethanol in the world for all the ricers that use 110 octane in stock engines.
