Unlike the title of this thread says the US is not an Empire...we do not conquer other nations and then keep them for ourselves. Look at what we did to Japan and Germany after WWII!!!
We do, however, defeat other nations, set up U.S-friendly governments, and place a large military presence there.

And the problem with this is????

Iraq aside because we can debate that forever and never reach a conculsion...name one war where the US was the aggressor.

And the military presence that we had in Japan and Germany and other nations was there to combat Soviet expansion. The non communist world wanted the US there so they did not have to spend $$ to defend themselves. Western Europe knew they could not beat the Red Army after WWII and wanted the US to stay as a deterent.

Are you saying that we should favor non US friendly governments?

Oh so we put in place US governors to rule the nations we have defeated...I had no idea that the leaders of Germany and Japan were really US governors and that Germany and Japan are not independant countries but actually colonies of the United States.

No, Yes, No, No, No.

British soldiers fired on the Concord militia starting the Revolution.

US declared war on Great Britain starting the War of 1812.

North Vietnam invaded the South where the US was training the South Vietnamese Army.

Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait...the UN asked for a coalition that the US led to evict him from Kuwait.

Al Qaida, using Afghanistan as a base of operations, attacked the US first by flying our planes into our buildings.

Quite easily...it is all part of the ongoing War on Terrorism. That was was clearly defined and we would go after those that support terrorism or pose a threat to the US, our friends, and our allies!

You may recall some other countries that participated in defeating Germany and Japan during WWII... I tend to call them "the allies"

Perhaps you forget that whole east/west germany business, and how we divided their country up amongst the victors?

I honestly didn't think anyone swallowed that entire load of bullcrap. Thank you for reducing my faith in humanity.

There have been no links between Iraq and terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaida. Osama Bin Laden even denouced the secualr Baathi'st government of Saddam and called for Saddam to be overthrown by the muslims of Iraq. And aggressivly attacking any nations that could possbile pose a threat (something that the weak Iraq did very little of) to us or our allies in order to become an unchallenged power is quite Empire-esque.
The fact of the matter is that Iraq was a sorereign nation that we attacked unprovoked.
