I went to Dominican for a week. It was pretty cool, lots of activities included. They have others which are extra: 4wheelers, through some local backroads, nice scenery, you see many locals and how they live. Horseback riding, at one point we were going through deep water and the horses were swimming, pretty cool. Jet skiing, boat rides, etc. Entertainment is cool, and keeps your day busy. Overall, not bad for $700 for 7 days (this includes flight and hotel, and everything else) My friend only brought $40 with him :chuckles:

Plus, you could easily go out of the resort, one night, the entertainment group took some people out to a local night club. The hookers are like $50 bucks a piece, so thats also good.

The only bad thing is that stuff like jetskiing is just as expensive as here.

we just went to st. martin recently. personally, i wouldn't do all inclusive there. too many restaurants and things all over the island, it would suck to be locked down to one place.

for me the best trips are where we can explore and experience the same things the locals do.

Why didnt you guys just take a cab and visit the city, market, downtown and so on?

every time i went to all inclusive i tooke at least 2 days to visit the local areas. Actually last time in Cuba I we were talking to the hotels front desk chicks. We had such a blast and they actually invited us to there place for a day. It was amazing! they prepared the best food ever, had tones of people over and we ended up playing domino with the locals till like 1AM.

A resort is great but it shouldn't stop you from exploring the local grounds too :dunno:

i'd rather not stay on a resort at all, that's my point. we had a rental car in st. martin, we saw and did what we wanted, whenever we felt like it. the best part was pulling off the side of the road on a whim and enjoying an entire beach to ourselves.

oh yeah that too... but those all inclusive is a great way to get to the destination for cheap. I say if you looking to relax and just enjoy the sun then the all inclusive is a great choice. you get to do that but you can always just rent a car and visit the surrounding as well.

I def agree though i dont think i'll be doing the resort thing anytime soon. Next trip will be S-A for the world cup :x:

where we stayed at the dominican, i think a guided tour was the only option for leaving the grounds. otherwise is was just poverty out there. that's another reason some of these places rub me the wrong way.

i was hoping to do the world cup this year. money and conflicting schedules says no can do.

On our last trip to Cancun we stayed at a friends timeshare for 4 days and at the Cancun Palace all-inclusive for 3.

The all-inclusive was AMAZING. Since we had already been "on our won" for 4 days, staying at an all-inclusive for 3 night was paradise.

However, I know that the all-inclusive experience will vary greatly from place to place.

I booked the all-inclusive portion and my airfare through expedia.com.

Where are you thinking of going?

Word. A lot of the all-inclusive packages are so cheap it would cost you just as much just to buy your own airfare and a rental car. Do the all-inclusive thing, get a cheap-ass flight and a "home base" and then branch out from there.
