Um. So I was right? Your BMW had a DSM problem. Yay. I mean... boooo....

Glad it wasn't worse that it is. I use a 32 oz Monster energy drink bottle for a coolant overflow reservoir. At least I do now. I used to use a different brand, some juice-based blue agave drink made by Fusion, but since the green Monster gave me another 1,000,000 hp, upgrading was a no-brainer. Now I make over a yillion horsepower. Who knew a coolant overflow bottle could be such a high-performance upgrade?

In the Bimmer engine, the overflow tank is pressurized and should really be considered an extended radiator end tank. The plastic ages and combined with the heat and shitty design of the tank, they usually split along one of the seams letting out all the coolant dropping pressure thus creating a boil-over/overheat situation. But yeah, you knew that already.h:
