In the Bimmer engine, the overflow tank is pressurized and should really be considered an extended radiator end tank. The plastic ages and combined with the heat and shitty design of the tank, they usually split along one of the seams letting out all the coolant dropping pressure thus creating a boil-over/overheat situation.
