Bettering your credit.
Are you sure you about that? I just received my credit score on the Equifax site and I wasn't charged anything.

It looks like my current FICO score is a 681. I have too much debt and not a very long credit history. I avoided credit cards when I was a bit younger because I didn't want to fall into the debt trap but now I wish I had gotten started earlier establishing good credit. I'm going to work really hard in the next year to pay down my credit card debt so hopefully I can get my score up. :hs:

I was at a 730 four months ago, about two weeks after I completed my debt management program. Since that time I have been using a CC that is paid down every month and added the statement 'successfully completed a debt management program' to my credit report. I would expect to be at a 750 by this point. My big negative at this point is $85k in student loans
i have good credit. girlfriend has better credit than i do.
i have a $500 limit credit card. have about $200 on it now, gonna owe ~$6000 when i get out of school in two months..
i'm happy.
i applied for a job at verizon and then a laptop got stolen that could have had my information on it, so they gave me a year of credit monitoring for free

likewise, i have several cards that i haven't used in years. i canceled at least 2 or 3 of them in the past year but none have ever been canceled on me due to inactivity. one of them gave me a hard time before they finally agreed to close it, and i hadn't used that one in at least 2 years.
i don't pay much attention to the rules that are out there for good credit.
i never carry a balance. i understand this is not possible for everyone.
i try not to have too many cards open. for example, if i open a new credit line (i.e sonycard for $150 credit), i close another account that i haven't used in a long time.
and i have just one main card that i use for pretty much everything. i don't spread my purchases across accounts unless i accidentally pull out my debit card.
i don't know how inline this is with the "rules", but the last time my credit score was pulled (for the mortgage), my score was > 800.
