Whaaaat? You know it only takes 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach the earth and mars is closer than the sun so it would take less than 8 minutes to get to mars at the speed of light.
Thats assuming we're lined up. If we're at opposite ends of our orbits we'd have to fly across the middle of the solar system (essentially across the full diameter of our orbit) and then some. But still, at near light speed it would be a matter of hours at most.

you have to travel much faster than speed of light to get that.
My understanding is that as you approach the speed of light, time gets more and more distorted, and then when you reach the speed of light, it stops. According to the physicists, faster than light doesn't exist.
a girl in india committed suicide by drinking pesticide on wednesday... not sure how dying through poisoning oneself is better than dying by getting sucked into a black hole :dunno:
Well, I would imagine it would like being sucked through the worst funnel in existence. That would suck.

right but only from the point of view of the outside observer not the person actually traveling that fast.

again depends on which point of reference is used.
this is from classical physics as I haven't a clue on quantum physics, that shit is wayyy over my head. i could ask my friend who is a Post Doc at Cal Tech if some of his "physics" buddies can explain it to me but... most of them are like "sheldon" from the show big bang theory and I don't want to talk to them for more than 10seconds

but you can all go together instead of alone
I wonder if the girls soul is doing the homer simpson  right now...

Exactly. So by saying he could do it in one afternoon, he could travel there and it may take him 42 minutes or a few hours or whatever, but to the rest of us, no time will have passed at all. So theoreticly he could go there, spend some time and come back and the only time that will have passed for us in comparison to him will be whatever time he chooses to spend on Mars. So technically, he could do it in an afternoon
