I didn't want to read 3 pages, but in CA anything over 50cc you need an M2 license. (EASY to get). Over 250cc you need an M1 license.

OR...just get a permit and you can ride your scooter. Restrictions are: No passengers, no freeway, no night driving.

Insurance can't be THAT bad. I pay $400/yr for my GSX-R600 with 15/30/15, $1000 deduc. for Comp/Coll.

What is a motor-driven cycle?

A motor-driven cycle is a motorcycle whose motor displaces less than 150 cubic centimeters.

Driver's License Requirements

Motorized scooter

Effective 1/1/2005, a Class C driver license or driver permit is required.

* Must obtain an M-1 or M-2 endorsement on a driver's license.
* M-1 allows the driver to operate a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle and moped
* M-2 allows for operation of a moped or motorized bicycle only.
* To obtain an M-1 or M-2 endorsement, the driver must:
o Pass the appropriate written exam

o If the individual is under 21 years of age, mandatory successful completion of a Basic Rider education course approved by the CHP is required, such as the Basic Rider course available through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program.

My dad used to be a GM at a Yamaha dealership. I got mine for like $1,800. All my friends got theirs for $1,950-2,150.

I think the MSRP on the Zuma is like $2,200 now. With tax & license at a reputable dealer, you should be able to get one for $2,500 out the door.

My insurance is $75/yr. In Utah you must register them, but you do not have to have a motorcycle license.

Hmm, looks like they just came out with a 125cc 4-stroke for $2,999:

On the 49cc Zuma, top speed is about 35mph. These definitely are not the fastest things in the world.
