So they'll just be like OMG totally drill that shit, we can live forever. Fuck competing in a global economy. Shut the borders and trade, we want to get paid for 8 hours but only work a grand total of one hour while driving in our huge vehicles and feeding our 4 kids. We're completely capable of making TVs, turquoise jewelry, and Tupperware on our own! We'll show the rest of the world what MADE IN AMERICA really means. errrghhh.

How do these people think we got to where we are? Were we really this inefficient in everything we did? I know we had a lot of oil, and exported it, but at least the workforce wasn't fat and lazy AND we didn't really have anybody else to compete with.

This is going to be great to watch....
Just because I want domestic oil, does not mean I drive a huge SUV and dump poisen into the ground water. I know that no matter what, we are going to be dependant on oil for a long time to come, and I agree we should be finding alternate sources. Not everyone can buy a brand new car, and it will take a long time for any new fuel to become cheap enough for everyone to use. So, why is it a bad thing to find a cheaper, non-imported source for the time it takes us to do that? Or, we could sit back, and dump money into the middle east.

Guess which country is the #1 exporter of petroleum into USA?

Guess which country is #3?

if you guessed a middle eastern country for either one. you guessed wrong.

Source of our imports is of little relevance on overall oil costs in the global market. A decreasing supply just increases costs as more people are competing for less of a resource.

Nor was I saying it was. I was merely pointing out unlike what most people think, Saudi is not the #1 supplier.

My info might be a bit old. As of April http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/p...nt/import.html

One of the larger reasons prices are so high, is because we havn't built a new refinery in a long time. Demand keeps going up, but none were built.

Imagine what will happen when we have a water shortage.

Oh wait. I have the great lakes. And all of their PCBs...

I could have sworn demand is down in the US and now down in India because they're no longer subsidizing their own fuel. To be honest I do think we need more nuclear power plants, look at France, they have like 12 of them and are exporting electricity now. In addition their pollution levels have gone down within the country, amongst all of the higher yield energy sources nuclear power has the greatest potential.

It's just a bandaid solution. Couldn't the money be invested in a better solution?
