Shit, it's the gift that I've staked a career on. :run:

Getting back on topic, it's understandable how we want to bury our heads in the sand and just wish this problem away. Problem is, wishes and quick fixes aren't going to do it.

I think you might be wrong. Remember the gas crunch in the 70's? Automakers didn't really take a stand then. What makes you think they will do it now?

I like that solution... but I'm sure it will take a long ass time to come up with a commercially viable version.

but why not just make bugs that makes diesel or gasoline instead of oil :chuckles:

I disagree. People are still concerned with going "green"....however, most people fail to realize that we are still going to need oil to survive in some fashion, for a long time to come. I don't know how much oil they expect to find, but a large amount could help.

werd

its going to take a LONG time but why not look now for more instead of waiting till everywhere starts drying up before checking for more ... just cuz they find it doesnt mean they will use it. just because a new reserve is found doesnt mean taht overnight we suddenly will start using a million more barrels a day

when consumers stop buying un-efficient cars and buying the more efficient ones. its already happening with the toyota prius.

if someone made a car that was affordable and could run on electricity i would buy it for commuting around town (since most likely it would get no more than 150 miles to a tank/charge)

its not that hard.

All the more reason IMO to stretch our current level of consumption as far as possible. When the capital cost of conservation is on par with the cleanup cost of a major oil spill, why continue to waste a finite resource?

Remember that tanker that ran into the Bay Bridge piling last winter? That was only a couple thousand gallons of fuel oil; consider what would happen if an 18" main carrying crude burst... :hsugh:

The oil Bush is advocating we tap now will come at a documented risk to our environment and it will take the better part of two years to come to market given the lack of refining capacity.

In the risk versus reward analysis, I see more money going to the oil companies than to the solutions that are staring us in the face right now.

If we go ahead and open up the shorelines, we're hitting the snooze button instead of nutting up and making the tough call.

Dave, check out the Aptera Typ-1.
I'm already looking at putting money down on the Typ-H.
