Default neighbors barking dogs...

so here is the situation....

we moved into our house in November and when our neighbor introduced himself, he told us we would "have to get used to his barking dogs"

sure enough, they are exactly that. as early as 6:15 and as late as 11:30 at night, his dogs are outside barking at everything that breathes and nothing at all... if i work outside, they bark at me the entire time. if i have friends over and we step onto the deck, they bark. if i grill, they bark. if i go outside to play with my dogs, they bark. pretty much nonstop.

so, i called the town and had them mail me a copy of the ordinance for barking dogs and it clearly states that he is in violation of the laws. it also says before filing a complaint with the town, i have to go to him and make sure he is aware of my discontent with his dogs behavior.

what would you do in this situation? i cant stand the barking dogs but lets face it, i have to live next to this guy and i dont want to make any bad blood. i know i am not the only one around here who cant stand it, i have had 2 other neighbors complain about it and ask me how i can stand having them right next door.

cliffs:
-neighbors dogs bark all of the time
-law says he has to make it stop but 1st i have to warn him
-dont want to cause problems
-dont want to listen to dogs
-what would you do?

My aunt dealt with the exact same problem with a family that rented the house adjacent to theirs.

The law is virtually identical up there. So, my aunt mailed a letter clearly advising the new tenant of the situation via certified return receipt, cc'ing the county Animal Control Dept. in the process.

From that point on, when the dogs became a nuisance, they called Animal Control and the dogs were removed from the property.

The owners had to pay a fine to retrieve their dogs from the County. By the third offense, they finally made good on the promise to send the dogs to obedience school. The problem was resolved completely in less than 2 months.

1st offense here, i think he just gets a warning from the town.
2nd offense, fine up to $50 and/or not more than 15 days imprisonment
each subsequent offense within 30 days, fine of at least $50 and/or imprisonment up to 15 days

they will take the dogs but i dont want it to come to that. i dont expect the dogs to never bark again (although anti-bark collars would be nice) but it would be nice if i could enjoy my backyard ever without getting barked at.

the problem as i see it really comes down to negligence... he puts the dogs out in the morning, they are outside pretty much all day and they get no human attention. i dont doubt that they are barking for attention and not as a deffensive/offensive bark but i dont think it should be my job to go pet them and talk to them every time i want to spend some time outside.

and with the baby on the way, i really dont want to have to deal with it when we have a sleeping baby... so im probably going to have to end up talking to him about it at some point, i just hope it stays civil.

If he doesn't do anything, tell him you're gonna release the dogs into the wild and burn down his house.

my father in law suggested that i just shoot them - although i would worry about retaliation...

i told him maybe if they came over the fence into my yard and he said he would gladly cut a hole in the fence :chuckles:

Don't cut a hole, break a hole in it...so it looks like the dogs broke through it...or dug a hole underneath it.

its 11pm. i have dogs barking at 3am, wakes me up everynight. i call my friend who is a cop and he took care of it.

i would jsut be like hey, ytour dogs are out barking at 11pm at night and i have to sleep early, cause i wake up early. i already tlaked to the town and they said i have to talk it over with you first. if he is too big of an asshole to realize that people dont appreciate it, fuck him.

my dog barks a lot so i cant leave him outside at night cause of it. i bring him in as soon as he does. its easy.
