I've seen the technology first-hand at SEMA... not quite "appliances" but indeed wireless power.

Can't wait for it to come out. A firm in MI has a patent pending on it.

this technology I saw is going to be everywhere. It's going to be built in to desks to charge laptops, built in to cars to charge cell phones/ipods, etc.

They'll even build it into garage floors for charging electric cars, i'm sure.

I want them to go public and invest in it.

way you describe this its still a contact based design, they build it into a desk so when the laptop is on the table it charges, the phone sets on the console in the car and charges

and that wouldnt work if you built it into a floor of a garage ... cars sit on tires, which are made of rubber, which are insulators ... ergo no worky

It's already been done. Crystal radio.

Second, I think it's an extremely inefficient way of transferring energy, considering you're creating a radial power source that will transmit energy to individual points in space. I guess it may be convenient for very small appliances...

Yeah, it's contact based, but still going to be very useful in tons of situations.

I know the tires would insulate, but i'm sure by the time there are electric cars in many garages they can figure it out.
