then again ... when it's hooked up to a normal monitor and it still bombs out ... :af: to Compaq's quality assurance group.

It's really the resolution. Depending on the age of the monitor, 720p could mean a few things.....
720p sets are either 1280x720 (true 720p) or 1366x768.

i believe the card is fine. windows uses odd resolutions during setup.... my 19" lcd monitor doesnt like some of the resolutions, and shows then squeezed down on the screen with a mode not supported dialog on the screen

I will take it to my sister's she has an hp too so there should be no reason her monitor does not work with my tower. And yeh screw geek squad i can normally handle most computer related problems myself but this is a first for me.

At work whenever we go from an old Eizo LCD monitor to one of our new Dells, we always have to change the refresh rate, if not we get the same problem you're having.

yeah I was thinking the same thing.. 70 seems a bit too high and I don't think trying another monitor would help.. unless it can go up to 70Hz

I had the same problem when i first hooked up my 28" monitor. I ended up fixing it by lowering the resolution to 800x600 first on the original monitor, then switching over to the new monitor, then adjusting the settings.

the only thing you need to take away from this is that I was right all along and I diagnosed the exact problem from the start. that is all. you may bow if you feel the need h:
