the resolution kicks up to like 1028x480 (cant remember if that's the exact number) @70Hz then i lose picture... I'll try a different monitor just in case that is the problem but my suspicion lies with the OS.

yeah I was thinking the same thing.. 70 seems a bit too high and I don't think trying another monitor would help.. unless it can go up to 70Hz
