I was browsing around Fry's today. It's hard to find a full ATX board that has good specs and an integrated video card.

I'm not a gamer and I'll be using this on a 37in LCD. : \

95% of pci-e x16 are video cards..... but you can now find a lot of other cards, like sound and tv tuner cards that use the stubby pci-e x1 slot.

in regards to integrated video.... almost any pci-e video card will blow the socks off of onboard video. especially if youre planning to playback HD content.

The new E8400 Core 2 duo's were released today. These run at 3GHz and have 6MB of L2 cache.

The biggest thing with the new chips is that they're featuring 45nm technology. They're more efficient, so they're cooler burning, which is less of a power draw.

I'm gawking at the Q9450 ... an Intel Core 2 Quad, 45nm, 2.66Ghz, 12mb of L2. I found a presale for $340 (ships in late Feb, early March) and I'm really tempted.

Quad = overkill? Awesome? Thoughts?

(ps: i'm saying :fawk: to the budget when it comes to the CPU.)

would you rather have 2 3.0 cores, or 4 2.4 cores?

the Q6600 does overclock well.

Jani, you seem to be the man around here ...

Quick question ... how is a task distributed over a multi core chip?

1 at a time until it's completed?
all cores working at the same time?

I'm just trying to determine if I really need a Quad or not. :thinking:

unless you specify it, a new task is sent to the core with the least load.

you dont need a quad..... but if you multitask.... it does make a difference.

people have gotten the q6600 to run at 3.0-3.2 with air cooling alone.
