also try stripping down the programs. If your virus scan is hyperactive or you have processes running in the background (iTunes, Quicktime, etc), this will kill your processing time.
you might want to reformat to really clean things out.
also, be sure to do a good sweep using an updated anti-virus ... you might have a piece of spyware or a virus chewing things up.
it see-saws.... AMD just released/is releasing their new quad.
intel's new quad in on the way.
The Phenom's were disappointing... they're fixing the problems they had with the first batches now but honestly if AMD has the lead it's not for long.
For right now AMD is jumping the gun trying to get ahead of Intel (creating SSE5 and trying to implement it as soon as possible)
SSE5 looks really promising, and it may be the inevitable pivot point for another swing... until then I'd say everything we're seeing is still trying to play catch up.
I'm just trying to determine if I really need a Quad or not.
I've been kicking around the same questions in my mind for a while now. I was so ready to buy the Q6600 until the new 45nm stuff came out. Now the E8400 seems like a nice, cheap solution. I still wouldn't mind the Q6600 but I'd hate for the price to drop right after I buy it.

From some casual browsing through forums, I've noticed a good number of people have reached 3.6 on air. Pretty impressive...
